Reseller Hangout Podcast
Rob: What's up, guys? On today's episode, we are talking about $11,250 in sales on eBay while we were out of the country on vacation.
Melissa: We're gonna dive into what we sold, and it was only two items, guys. Two items to make $11,250, and we're gonna dive into the numbers because of course the profit is the most important part.
Rob: All right, guys. So we are going over two of the sales that happened last week while we were on vacation slash business meeting, out of the country, mastermind event. Mastermind. Definitely investing in ourselves, investing in our business. But at the time, we sold two items on eBay.
That were over $10,000. So we love it.
Melissa: It's awesome when that happens. It's really cool. One was like right as we were leaving and then the other one was, while we were there, so which was cool while we were in one of the sessions. So this mastermind event is for like, they do the sessions in the morning and then they give us the rest of the day to talk to people, to go hang out.
And we're in this beautiful, beautiful place. If you've never been to Xcaret Hotel in Mexico, in Cancun, oh my goodness, it is the most beautiful. I think it's the most beautiful place I've ever been.
Rob: So it was, it was amazing. We had such a great time. We took the kids with us, so, we took Melissa's mom and stepdad with us.
They were able to watch the kids while we were in session, in the morning. And then we were able to join as a family and do some fun stuff afterwards. So it was work, it was pleasure. It was a blast. But the best thing about the whole ordeal was two sales came in, while we were away, really enjoying the time as a family and enjoying the time of, of investing into ourselves as a business.
Melissa: Yeah. So. You wanna dive into the sales?
Rob: Let's do it.
Melissa: So the first one was the TurboChef.
Rob: Absolutely. So this TurboChef is the third in our series. You guys might, our TurboChefs, exactly. You guys might remember we bought two, while we were on our road trip over the summer. Sold them bad boys pretty quick.
This was the last one. I came way down on the price of this one because I wanted it to move. And yeah, so we sold it for $6,250.
Melissa: Yep, and you took an offer on this one?
Rob: I did. And I
Melissa: you counteroffered.
Rob: I did. I had this one listed for $9,000. Somebody offered me $6,000, I countered it $6,500 and he came back at $6,250 and I was like, all right, I don't wanna mess with it anymore.
I had $150 into this bad boy, so we killed it with this one. Amazing, amazing profit. I probably could have held out and really got more towards seven, $8,000 for it. But I was ready to move it. It's in storage. I'd rather sometimes just move those things off, get 'em done. And plus this was right before we were going outta town, came in I think the day before we went outta town.
So I wasn't able to ship it out. We'll talk about that for a second. On all of our shipments that we do, we do a five day handling time for freight shipments. And I wasn't able to ship it out before we left, so I actually emailed the buyer and said, listen, I apologize. Cannot get this shipped out. We are out of town next week.
I will have it shipped out the following Monday, if that is okay with you. Let me know and I'll be able to do that. If not, I'm happy to refund you and cancel the transaction.
Melissa: I'm like, no, don't do it.
Rob: Melissa didn't want me to do that, but the guy actually, he didn't even respond back. So nothing happened, while we were outta the country, actually created the label, added the tracking to it and then dropped it off, yesterday. Actually dropped it off at the freight yard yesterday and got it shipped out the first day back.
Yep. So that worked out a cool, cool deal. Paid $150 for this bad money.
Melissa: We got that one on Marketplace, right?
Rob: We did. One of my buddies actually knew that I bought the other two TurboChefs, sent me the listing and said, hey, check this out. The guy was asking $300 for it immediately. I offered him $150, to see if he would take it.
It wasn't working when I got it, which it was a good sign everything was there. The guy said he didn't know what was wrong with it. He plugged it in and it wouldn't come on. To me, I thought, well, that's pretty cool because it might be a fuse. I know these units have fuses. When I got it home, changed out the fuses and that was it.
It worked perfect, no issues. And we sold it, sold it with a video so you could see that it was working. So yeah, killer, killer deal on that. Made good money. Didn't make as much as we wanted to make on it, but at the same time
Melissa: we didn't have anything invested.
Rob: Exactly.
Well, one, hardly. Yeah, hardly money invested into it.
So made a, I made a killing on that one. So that's the first one.
Melissa: All right, so the total number of that is eBay fees were $405 on that plus the ad fees of $265. So you did have it on promoted listings.
Rob: I did promoted listings on that one. I think it was two percent, one of 'em was two cuz the other one we did, I think I had promoted.
Yeah, it had promoted on both of 'em. Yeah. One of 'em was two and one of 'em was for 4%, I believe is what we had to promoted at.
Melissa: Four, that's higher for you than it normally is.
It is,
Rob: but I did it because of, that's, they, I think they were recommended like eight and I dropped it down and went just a little bit higher to try and sell it quicker.
Melissa: Okay, and then shipping was $125. $125, which brings our total profit to $5,305.
Rob: $5,300, guys. That's the profit on this bad boy. So in one flip, $5,300. Love it. I love it when we're able to make those kind of types of flips. Killer, killer deal on that one. So excited about that.
Melissa: All right. And then the stretcher was number two.
This one I remember was during session and I, I had your phone because my phone went swimming last Tuesday, so it's Tuesday. I've been a week without a phone. That's really, really hard, especially when you have an online part of the business. Yep. And it's just hard. So, but it's actually was kind of nice to be a little removed from everything. So it's been, it's been good, but it comes today, so I'm, yep. I'm excited to have it back. Woohoo. So, but I had your phone and then I somehow missed, we missed the notification. Then I looked back, I'm like, oh, looks like you sold something. So, and it was a stretcher.
Rob: And it was a big sale.
Melissa: It was a stretcher for $5,000.
Rob: $5,000. It was actually $4,500. $4,500 plus $500 for shipping. Yeah. Killer, killer deal on this one. If you guys remember, we've sold the stretchers in the past. This bad boy is the gift that keeps on paying. I love it.
Melissa: Not anymore though. We only have one left.
Rob: This was the most expensive one.
So one thing that I did that I'll give you guys a little bit of tip, since I bought multiples of these, we bought 12 of these. A couple of them I actually did put some extras on this one. Put a, it was one of the, IV bag holders that I had to take off of some of the other ones that we had. We sold 'em without it because I wasn't aware that they had it.
So I pulled 'em off, put it on this. And we sold this one for more money, so I double listed stretchers, with a higher price is one of those $4,500. The other ones we sold for, I think $3,200 without the extra, without the extras. And I listed them both at the same time, wondering which one would sell first and then I would delete the other one.
Little pro tip, if you guys have multiple items and you're able to do stuff like that. We offered a little bit, a couple extras with this one to make it at a higher price. Somebody bought it, they paid for shipping, and yeah, love it. I love it when we can make that kind of money. So this was by far the highest, the highest one that we sold at $4,500 plus $500 for shipping on it.
Melissa: Yeah. So usually when we do our total is we total up. The item plus shipping, cuz most, a lot of time we do free shipping. So it's just that anyway. And it's built into the price. Yep. But it just helps for the numbers. Cuz when we add in shipping, so we paid $183 cuz we bought 12 of them. And I did not want you to buy them.
Nope. I was against it, I will say, but I've been very happy about.
Rob: Just like the majority of the stuff when I buy, she didn't want me to do it. We ended up paying $2,200 up front on this one. So that's what I had to pay for these stretchers when we bought 'em, bought 12 of 'em. I think it averaged out $180 something, $183, $185, somewhere around there.
But yeah, amazing, amazing flips. I think we've already cleared over within the last couple months, over 30 some thousand dollars on these stretchers. So killer, killer deal, amazing investment, and love it when we're able to do that. I love buying multiples, when I can do it, especially on high profit items.
I love, I love, I love that.
Melissa: The multiples have definitely helped us over the years. Absolutely. And the one cool thing about buying like a, multiples of items. Like when we did the sleep number beds, we did, we've talked about these before. The, the panels. You, it's kind of a, it's a consistent income coming in.
It is. So it's like you, they just keep selling, which was, it's very helpful to have those.
Rob: It's amazing to be able to do that.
So if you can buy multiples, from your contacts, wherever you're at, the flea market, that kind of stuff, and people have multiples try to get multiples. It's amazing because you can usually list one.
I've sold all of these with a single picture that I had the first time. So it took amazing pictures, on the first one, and then we were able to sell multiples with it, without the headache of keep taking pictures, keep doing all this stuff. We just have to ship 'em out individually when they sell.
Some of 'em sold two at a time, some of 'em sold four at a time, and it was just, it's really, really cool if you can buy multiples. It's, it's, it's, it's helpful.
Melissa: I will add, if you are doing multiple listings or you have multiple items and you do, you're taking pictures, make sure if you do have one that's like slightly damaged or something else, you include that picture for that listing because you don't wanna, you know, use the best one you have.
Yeah. Take pictures of that, and then you get a not so nice one. So just be careful that.
Rob: That's a great point. And on ours, all of them had a couple little scratches and nicks and stuff like that. So on my listing, I always put pictures of those things in there, which I did and said, hey, these, yeah, these expect normal wear.
These are not brand new. Expect normal wear, could have scratches, scuffs, scrapes. And I had pictures of them in there so people knew they weren't in perfect condition, but they weren't getting the actual knicks on the one picture that I had. So still they were in great, great condition. So, but I didn't, I didn't promise that they were in amazing, immaculate condition.
I said, hey, these are used. Please expect normal wear. And like Melissa said, you definitely want to add pictures. If something is majorly, a major dent, a major scratch, something like that, that somebody will be upset about, make sure you're taking a picture of that and showing it when you're actually listing the items for the multiples.
Melissa: All right, so eBay fees were $377. Yep. At eBay. Ad fee. Well then there's ad costs. We're, we're for promoted listings was $108. Yep. Shipping cost was $140. Is that $140 or $180? $140. $140. Yep. And which brings the total profit to $4,192.
Rob: Woohoo. So total profit for both items while we were out of town outta the country on vacation, on Mastermind, guess what it was.
Melissa: $9,497.
Rob: Almost $9,500, guys that we were able to make while we were absent, while we were out of the business. That's it. While we were outta the business. And guess what? I shipped one out yesterday. I'll ship one more out tomorrow. Two items shipped to make that kind of money. Oh my goodness.
That's amazing. I love it when we're able to make those type of profits.
Melissa: That's one thing also when you're on vacation that you know, you have to be careful about your shipping time. So we always, with our larger items, we always put a five day handling time, five business days. So that allows it to go through the full, the one was slightly over, so you could, you could get, it was like a day over, so you could get a little ding for that one.
But I created the shipping you did in time and uploaded the shipping, but yeah. But yeah, so the, so just be careful if you are. Like if you know you're handling time and you're on vacation, make sure you change it to what you're gonna be like if you know you're gonna be back in two weeks or one week or whatever, make sure you have that.
Because if you have like one day handling time, you obviously can't do that if you're gone. Absolutely. So just make sure you know that. But we always do five day on our big stuff. Yep. So, so $9,490. So. Love it. So it was a, it was a good week. And, one thing that I know one of our coaches in our group Stacy always says is to like, I am listing today for my payday next month, which is, so, it's, it's cool cuz like we could go away and then we still make money.
Still make money and it was super helpful because you know when you go away on vacation and you come back and usually, you know, those bills get tighter. Absolutely. Things get like you're a little more stressed, like you go and you relax and you enjoy, then you come back more stressed, which is no fun. So, no. So that's a nice little present. Nice little absolutely income to have while.
Rob: Come back to almost $10,000 in your bank account. Yeah, I love it. I love it. I love it. Amazing. So awesome guys. Absolutely awesome guys. So if you wanna learn more, you guys, you know, our business model is selling a lot less items with a lot higher profits.
