Reseller Hangout Podcast – 4 Tips To Grow Your eBay Feedback In 2023
Rob: What's up, pro flippers? On today's episode, we are talking about four tips to increase your feedback on eBay in 2023.
Rob: All right, guys, today we are talking about feedback, more importantly, how to increase your feedback on eBay.
Melissa: And why is feedback so important.
I know we've talked about this before, but feedback on eBay is more important than really any other platform. I feel like, I mean, it is important when you're a seller on any platform, your feedback is important obviously, but I feel like there it weighs a lot more like on eBay than it does on marketplace or a lot of other, a lot of other selling apps. So.
Rob: Absolutely, and even for our business, it weighs even more than somebody else's normal business who's selling lower priced items. Somebody who's selling $10, $20, $30 items, people aren't gonna totally go look at the feedback. They might look at the percentage of feedback that's positive, but they're not gonna go and really dive into the feedback to where, when we're selling an item for a $1,000, $2,000, $5,000, $10,000, people are gonna check to see if we are legit, make sure that we are doing what we say and we're legit sellers on eBay.
So that's why feedback is so important in this business.
Melissa: Yeah. So we wanna go through how to grow your feedback, so that you can sell those higher items because it is harder to sell if you're trying to you know, you're gungho, you're ready to go and sell some $500, $1,000 items, like we are, we're so excited for you.
We want you to do that. But at the same time, if you have five feedback, it's gonna be very hard. It's hard. So, so our goal, we recommend at least getting up to 50, like as fast as you can. So it's kind of the first hurdle to get to.
Rob: Yep. So, and we'll break down feedback. So if you don't know feedback on eBay, it's broken into two parts.
It's buyer's feedback and seller's feedback. So everything that you sell, you can get the feedback in and you can get the buyer's feedback for anything that you buy. Now those two numbers go together to calculate your feedback. They don't distinguish which is which. When you see the number behind your name, they don't show you, which is, but once you click on the number, it will show you buyers and sellers.
So at this point, you just want to get the number up behind your name as high as you can as quick as you can when you want to start selling more expensive items on eBay.
Melissa: Yeah. The goal is to obviously increase your seller feedback. That is the more weighing one, especially when you're selling some of those bigger items.
But we wanna just increase your overall feedback, cuz I know, like when I'm buying, think of yourself as the customer too. Like when I'm gonna go buy something from someone, I'm looking on eBay, I'll look at their number more. I don't necessarily dive into all the people's feedback unless they have a lower percentage.
Then I'll go in and look, if they don't have a hundred percent, I'll go in and be like why did they get a lower rating? If they're a super high volume seller, you know, there's gonna be some issues. So that could be like a one, like point something percent and that's whatever. It's a, there's people out there that aren't gonna be happy and that's fine.
But if it's, you know, somebody with a lower percent and they don't have a lot of feedback, then probably not somebody you aren't gonna go buy from. So.
Rob: Absolutely. So let's dive into these four tips. How to raise your feedback fast, quickly as possible.
Melissa: So the first two have to do with buying feedback. Perfect.
That is the one that is the easiest to do and it's the quickest to do so. The first one is to buy really low priced items that you can find on eBay.
Rob: Absolutely. So this is cool. You can go in and buy dollar items on eBay, free shipping, all that kind of stuff. You can go in and do that. And typically the people who are selling these type of items are selling their volume sellers.
So they have tons and tons of items, maybe thousands or hundreds of thousands of items, and they're selling, that's their, that's their business models to do that. When you go in and buy it, typically they have it set up automatic. Once you buy and pay for it, they issue you feedback immediately because you've done your portion of the transaction, you bought it, you paid for it.
Now you're just waiting for them to fulfill it, to ship it to you. So typically, all of them set up on automatic, hey, once this thing's paid for, give the feedback immediately. So that's the one of the quickest ways to actually buy or to get feedback, positive feedback for buying items that are very, very low priced.
Melissa: Yeah. And just, to say what you reiterate, what you said about, a lot of times those high volume sellers, just have the automatic feedback already turned on so that, they don't, and if you are a high, high volume seller, that might be something you wanna do too. It just, it helps your leave your feedback if you wanted to do that.
But, they do that because they don't have time to go leave hundreds of feedback every day when they sell stuff. So it's a lot of volume, low price stuff. So, so that's the first way.
Rob: Number one and number two is similar.
Melissa: The second one is to buy items that you normally would. Only instead of going to Amazon, go to eBay or at the store, I would probably say, you're gonna go to Amazon, go to eBay instead and buy your items that you normally would buy.
Don't go out any extra money, just know that it might take a little extra shipping time.
Rob: That's it. So anything that you would normally buy on Amazon and you can switch over because it takes a little bit longer do it. Just switch it over for a short time, to maybe get that buyer's feedback. So, that's the stuff that you're buying at a dollar or whatever you can at the cheapest rate that you can. That's just gonna be stuff you're buying. You're paying a dollar for that feedback. This one you can actually switch over and something that you need, something that you, you need in your everyday life, you can do that and switch it over to eBay. Typically, Amazon and eBay have similar stuff in their market.
It it, like Melissa said, it's just it takes a little bit longer when you're buying on eBay to get the fulfillment to get that item. If you can switch that over for a month and get some of that feedback for the items that you're buying, and that will absolutely help you build that feedback quickly too.
Melissa: Yeah, some examples can be like toiletries, like some makeup or like shampoo conditioning, if you know, like the certain brands that you use. There are sellers on there. There's one skincare line that I really like that I used to get at Whole Foods. And then, Whole Foods is not really close to us, so I didn't really wanna go get it, but I found a seller on, on eBay and I, started buying from her every once in a while.
So, the stuff you normally would get, whatever products you like you can always, usually find a seller on there that you can buy a product.
Rob: Tools, parts, anything that, like I said, anything that you might go to Amazon because it's a quick ship. Maybe try to switch over and do it on eBay for a little bit.
Anything that you guys need or that you're buying online already, check and see if it's on eBay and try and get it that
way.
Melissa: I think it's funny, I go to the makeup and toiletries and you go to the tools and parts and stuff. Absolutely. So there you go. You can get a little bit of everything on eBay.
You really do almost always. You buy a lot of parts on eBay though too. Yeah, I do. So you do both, I guess. eBay, eBay and Amazon. Yep. But so that is a way, great way. Both of those are great ways to build your buyer's feedback. So, which is part of the number that you're gonna see.
Rob: Absolutely. So now tip number three goes into more of the selling feedback.
Melissa: So this is seller's feedback. So you want to start listing some stuff that you already have around. That you're gonna go donate. It's not junk like we're not selling junk, we're selling good items, but you're ready to get rid of it and you're gonna sell it at a discount. So.
Rob: Yep, absolutely. And that is the item.
You do not wanna lose money on shipping. So when you're selling these items, make sure your shipping is covered. If you're selling something, it's gonna go in a small box, calculated shipping is great on that. If you have it in the box, if you don't know, like I said, make, if you're doing flat rate shipping, make sure your shipping is covered, but the item is next to nothing.
Maybe you're listing it at a penny. You're selling that item for one penny, but you're covering yourself with $9.95 for shipping, or $9.97 $10 for. That way the people are getting a good deal. They're only paying for shipping to get that to them. But you're gonna get that feedback, you're gonna get that seller's feedback, and that's what you want to build.
These are items like Melissa said, that you donate, that you get rid of for whatever reason. You don't need 'em. And you're not trying to make a profit on 'em. You're not trying to make a ton of money. You're just trying to really build that feedback.
Melissa: Yeah. What would be some examples? Because you're not, like, we're not saying go and sell junky stuff that's broken that nobody would want. Like sometimes you.
Rob: Great example, a shirt. Yeah. You're in the closet and you go through your closet shirts, pants that you have never worn. You have worn 'em, but they're still in good condition. Put 'em on there for a penny. Start the auction. You auction 'em off if you want. Put 'em at a buy it now, but start it for one penny. Some other stuff that you can do.
Melissa: Auctions can also help boost the, yeah, algorithm and eBay and stuff. So yeah, that's probably a good idea.
Rob: Coffee mugs, stuff that you're not using in the pantry, any of that stuff, that now we're not selling. You go sell a, a $50 bread maker, you know what I mean? A bread machine or whatever for a penny that we're not talking about that kinda stuff. Yeah. We're talking about small items, that you can sell dirt, dirt cheap. Don't lose money on shipping. Put the shipping price in there as well, that you can do that. Absolutely. Just try to build that seller's feedback up.
Melissa: Right. And maybe even stuff that you've intended to use or you haven't used it and like, you just think of some stuff and you have in your house that, that yeah, you're gonna, you would be ready to declutter.
Yeah. And, and donate it. But instead of sell it.
Rob: Borderline, donate not, stuff that, yeah, you're gonna lose money on, but borderline donate, you're ready to get rid of it. Decluttering is a great, great example. Yeah. So, number four.
Melissa: Number four is to ask for feedback. So, a lot of times whenever you sell an item you get a little bit nervous, like, okay, I'm like, I, should I ask for feedback?
Cuz what if they're not happy or what if you know, so, but you can completely send a message, a really nice, polite message, you know, after they get it and say, hey, I'm trying to grow my eBay account. If you're happy with your transaction, would you please, leave us a, some, a positive feedback? We would love that.
Or what something, something along those lines, obviously that Yeah. But that can help and sometimes people just need to be reminded so they forget about it. Absolutely. They forget about it and they get busy. I mean, you're bad about it and you should know like, oh, be these people are eBay sellers. I need to leave them feedback.
Rob: So yeah, almost a hundred percent of the items that I sell, I forget to leave feedback. We don't sell volume. We definitely sell a very, which should be even easy . It should be, but it's, I get busy in the same thing everybody does. But I will tell you one thing, if somebody reaches out and says, hey, could you leave me positive feedback?
I click over immediately and I do it. So do not be scared to do it. Just ask, give that ask is the best thing that you can possibly do. I know Melissa has had cards made.
Melissa: I have a card if you're watching on YouTube versus the podcast. But, the kids, when we open their account, Roxy helped me design these.
She actually designed them, but what it says on the card, so it's just a card that we printed out at Staples. It says, thank you and big letters, and it says, we're three kids working hard to make some extra money. We appreciate your order. Please let us know if there's anything we can do to make your experience better.
And if you're happy with your transaction, we would love if you left us positive feedback. Thank you so much. So if you can put a little story about yourself, like, you know, I'm a stay-at-home mom, trying to make some what, like that, those things are helpful too. People know. Okay, you're trying to. You know, make this business work.
So those little pieces of your story can help solve.
