5 Steps To Start Making Flipping Money Today!

Rob: What's up, pro flippers? On today's episode we're talking about five simple steps to get you started in your reselling business today. Alright guys, today we are talking about 5 simple steps to get you making money in your resale business today.

Melissa: We're Rob and Melissa with Flea Market Flipper and we love helping you make extra money in your flipping business.

Rob: That's right, and we are going to give you the shortcut to start making money today with your business.

Melissa: So the one thing about this business is it's super simple, not, and when I'm saying simple, it doesn't mean it's easy there. It does take work. But it's simple and that means anybody can do it and, you don't need any special skillset and we can just dive right in and get started today.

That's it.

Rob: So step one, the first thing you need to do to get started is find something in your house that you're not using something that you bought, you had great intentions of using, but you're not using, for last year, 12 months. If you have not used it, chances are you can get rid of it and turn it into some cash.

Melissa: And we're not talking about things that are like trash, like junk, like stuff that's broken and not, you know, something nice that, but you just really haven't used it and that you might as well just donate it anyway. Or that, you know, that there's still value in it. Like there's still like you bought it for a hundred dollars.

It's still worth $50. Like, let me just list it and sell it and make the $50. I'm not gonna use it. I did that with an air fryer not that long. It was an air fryer. I didn't I just didn't love that. I don't know. I tried it I didn't really use it. And so we just sold it again. So You can make quick cash in this business.

Rob: That's it. So first take inventory of what you got what you can pull out what you can sell that you're not using anymore. And that's the step number one.

Melissa: And it's kids too. The kids I tend to not use stuff too.

Rob: Absolutely everything you can think of. There's no limit. I mean, in the attic, in the garage, in the kitchen, gadgets, all that kind of stuff.

Just think about some things that you can get rid of today because you're not using it or you haven't used it in the last 12 months. So step number two, pull it out, get it cleaned up. Chances are if you haven't used it in 12 months, it might be dusty. It might be in a closet collecting dust somewhere, or in the bedroom, in the garage, something like that.

Get it cleaned up. Wipe it down, use a duster on it, get the dust off of it, and get it cleaned up and get some pictures of that item.

Melissa: And pictures are super important. Not as important when you're listing locally because the person can come and see the item. More important, when you're listing something with shipping, and you can do shipping on marketplace, but if you're shipping on eBay, the person doesn't get to see the item, so they're, they need to be able to see all aspects of it and you have to have good pictures.

But you still want good pictures even if you're just listing locally because nobody really wants to go and get an item when there's clutter everywhere or there just doesn't, it looks like, you know, we've seen lots of pictures on marketplace, which we look for those items because if it's like something sitting and there's stuff everywhere in a garage, like then, you know, you can probably get a good deal for it.

So, but, but taking good pictures can definitely help sell your items.

Rob: Pro tip. Take a small video, do a 30 to 45 second video of the item. If it powers on, show that in a small video and you can throw that into the platforms. We're going to focus on a Facebook marketplace, but that's where you want to show people that it is working and you do a small video in there.

Not super long. Like I said, 30, 45 seconds tops that you can do that. That's a pro tip. Get it done. People are able to see it. They know that it works. And that's the first thing that they will pop up when they're actually looking for those items to buy.

Melissa: You can do, videos on Marketplace now, right?

Yes. Okay. That's what we're focusing on. I know. I know. But I didn't, I know you could do them on eBay. I didn't know if you'd do them on Marketplace as well.

Rob: And don't do it too long. It will not let you do it if it's too long. I think Marketplace is over a minute. eBay is under 50 seconds from the iPhone standards. That's what we use. But, definitely, like I said, 30, 45 seconds is all you need. Just power it up, walk around the item if you want to. Just a real quick video to show people that it works. So step number three, get it listed.

Melissa: Get your item listed on the platforms. So where you can get started quickly just by local platforms like Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, Craigslist.

Yes, people still do look on Craigslist. You might think, oh, Craigslist is so old. But we get stuff on there and people still post a lot of stuff on there. I would probably say it's a little bit older demographic that still uses Craigslist, but it's still active in a lot of areas. So, we would encourage you to list them on all three, cross post them, copy and paste the titles and descriptions, and just throw in the pictures.

I don't know if you can do video on OfferUp and Craigslist. You can't?

Rob: No, you can't do videos on those yet, just, Marketplace and eBay, you can throw videos in. So, OfferUp and, actually OfferUp might start letting you do it, but, Craigslist no. But OfferUp might be on the edge of, letting you do videos.

I'm not 100 percent sure. I haven't listed anything on there in a while, but like Melissa said, if you want to make money. Throw it in all three platforms. Those are the ones we know the best, and it depends on what area you're in for which one is the most active. Some areas, Craigslist is the most active.

Some areas, OfferUp might be the most active. In some areas, Marketplace might be. So if you throw it on all three of those avenues, you're going to see which ones you start getting comments on and which ones people start using. And that's how you know where to post more things and you'll be able to sell stuff more there on that platform.

Melissa: Yeah, and this is just the quickest way to make some quick cash so you can also post it on eBay. eBay is just a little bit more intense. I guess the word is like you just have to have a little bit more, more stuff there's more things to fill out and but if you're already selling eBay, throw it on eBay. But this is just the we wanted to give you the five steps to start like today. You're gonna start making money quick.

Rob: You can! You can make money today. You can make a hundred dollars today with some of these items that you get posted do exactly these steps we're giving you. Get them posted and they you'll have people come out of the woodworks to be able to buy this stuff.

Melissa: So one other thing is for pricing your items like when you're putting the items locally, you have to leave yourself a little wiggle room for negotiation because people do like to negotiate they want to get a good deal. So say and you also want to price your item, like you can't be over retail, obviously.

And you know what you paid for that item since you're just dealing with stuff in the house. So if you know what you paid for the item, just know you have to be less than that, for the most part. Some things might go up in value, but for the most part, it's going to go down in value. So kind of know the condition and then how you price it accordingly and leave yourself, you know, if it's a $50 item, maybe price it for $60 or $70, like if you're wanting to get $50 for it, and then give $10, $15, or $10, $20 wiggle room to give a discount, so.

Rob: Definitely a pro tip. What Melissa just said, be able to have wiggle room on the price. People always want to get a better deal. If you list it for that price, they're going to want to negotiate with you.

You know that now, so be prepared for that when you list your item. So awesome pro tip. Number four! Four! Watch out for scammers, guys! We are in 2023 right now and there are scammers everywhere. So not to scare you, just be prepared. You're going to have some people reach out and do some crazy stuff. I put something on last week on marketplace and I had people who wanted to pay me cash app Venmo and then have their family member, brother, sister, cousin, come pick it up after that kind of stuff. And those are the kind of people that you want to watch out for. The best thing, when you're not sure about something is just meet in person and take cash. Don't take Venmo. Don't take cash app. Don't take any of those other things because people will try to send that to you, get your email address, send you a confirmation that it's paid for, and then they weren't going to want to take the item.

So just to, to bypass all that stuff. And if you're worried about scammers. The easiest thing to do is set up a meeting point, that you can meet up with somebody, they can pay cash for the item, and you can totally do that, and then you don't have to worry about scammers. But just be prepared, if some people give you a sob story, or give you this crazy story about, it's probably a scam. Exactly, so be prepared for that, and if you're a new seller, or you don't sell a lot of stuff, These people will come out of the woodworks to try and do that and if it doesn't feel right It's probably not right. So just be prepared for that. Yeah.

Melissa: And another one is never I mean with that is don't you don't need to go off the app like if the biggest thing is they want your information.

They either want a phone number email .They're either gonna sell that to somebody or they're trying to get you to some people say oh, I'll pay you $50 extra for this item. If you go get a gift card, obvious scam, don't do it. Like, just don't ever, I mean, that's the whole reason why these stores say, you know, the gift card scams, because they don't, they want you to know, like, you don't go buy this gift card for somebody who's asking you for it.

So, if they're trying to overpay, they're trying to get you off the app, and they're trying to, and the not pay cash one is not that crazy. So that, if they're only doing that. Kind of, you know, it could be legit. People just don't like to pay on Venmo or Zelle or whatever. But just, we prefer cash and we don't like to use them.

We have used them in the past, but, just cash in hand is the best. And if you're worried about cash, you can always get one of those pens off of Amazon to check the cash.

Rob: And if you're experienced with Venmo or Zelle or any of those other places, you can totally use it. But I'm just saying if you're worried about scammers, their biggest scam is they're going to say hey I need your email address and they're going to send you a confirmation through email. And then it's going to come back and be like hey, you got money in your account, you have to release it by going to do something just something crazy. So if you're familiar with those apps, you can totally use it. But if you're worried about scammers, the best thing you can do is cash make somebody stop by the atm on the way to pick it up. Give you the cash exchange cash in hand for the item.

You won't get scammed if you're doing that. Yep All right, number five number five fulfillment. This is where you set up the appointment to meet up with them and make money and get the cash back. That's right. So and another pro tip meet up at a public place. Use a shopping mall, that's around you, a police department, a fire department any of those places that around you that have people in the areas or, like a police officer, yeah, fire department, any of those places like that.

Do not go far out of the way to meet somebody because there are a lot of flaky people out there that will set up an appointment with you and never respond back and not show up. So make sure it's really close to your house, within two, five minutes of your house, even closer at some points. If you're in a town, meet them close to the house so you're not going out of your own way and you're going to waste time if that ends up happening.

Melissa: Yeah, and if somebody asks you to come deliver the item, either charge a delivery fee. So you can deliver it if it's like 30 minutes away for this fee. But the thing that you run into with the problem with that is if you do go to the house and then, or go where, meet them where they're at, and then they decide they don't want it.

Now you just wasted an hour of your time.

Rob: Or they'll talk you down on the price because they know you're there and you want to get rid of it. And that's just a bad situation. So don't do that. Stay close to your house, meet up at a public place, them come to you.

Melissa: And that's like most people understand that if they're the buyer, they're coming to you.

But not everybody understands that.

Rob: So, and it's okay. There's more buyers out there that will do it. They'll want the I that will want the item and they'll come to you to get the item.

Melissa: All right? So that is the bare minimum of five quick steps that you can use today. And go do it. The, I think the hardest part about this whole thing is going and just taking action.

Take an action, like stop thinking, stop overthinking. This is the easiest way to make some quick cash. And yeah, so.
