Reseller Hangout Podcast - 5 Tips To Grow Your Flipping Business As Fast As Possible
Rob: What's up, pro flippers? On today's episode, we are talking about five tips to insanely grow your flipping business as fast as possible.
Rob: All right guys, so we just got back from a mastermind. It was called Mastermind in Paradise. We were in Mexico learning some amazing stuff from some very, very successful people, and we kind of wanted to do a breakdown of the stuff that we learned the overall, or underlining, themes that we, thank you themes that they were talking about and presenting and doing that kind of stuff.
So multiple, multiple days that we actually got to listen to different people and different takes on businesses and stuff like that. So we figured we'd give you guys a breakdown. This is kind of, Melissa and I are, we're, serial learners. Is that what it's called?
Melissa: Serial, which is ironic cuz you hated school so much.
Rob: Because it wasn't what I wanted to learn, it wasn't what I enjoyed.
This is what I enjoy. I enjoy learning more about business, more about, success and how to be more successful. And this is kind of what our mastermind really, this is what they live and breathe and teach people. So, we wanted to give you guys kind of a, an underlying of what it was and, the, the, the biggest things that we took away from the mastermind that we were at.
Melissa: Yeah. So we had, I think it was four days of like sessions and learning from people. And then we had the rest of the day, like it was in the mornings, so, for a couple hours then we had the rest of the day to kind of talk to people and learn about their businesses and go explore the parks there, which were amazing.
It's a beautiful place, Xcaret. Yeah. In Mexico, if you've ever been there. It is amazing, so just, and it's just was very, what's the word I'm looking for? Very energizing to be there because I don't know, you're just in nature. There's, so, there's sunshine and it, we just came back like on fire because you're also learning all this stuff, but then you're also re-energized, like physically, just cuz I mean we do have sunshine a lot, I will say in Florida.
Yeah. But just, I don't know. You're outside. Everything's so tropical and it's just is very relaxing, but energizing at the same time, if that makes sense. So.
Rob: And learning or learning that we're able to be around these people who have successful businesses, who are striving to be more successful, it was really, really cool.
It was very, like Melissa said, energizing is a great word to kind of sum it up, it was amazing to be able to go there, learn more, be in nature. Be in nature, and have so much fun. And we took our family too, so our kids were with us. Melissa's mom, stepdad were there, her brother and her sister-in-law.
So it was a big family get together that we did while we got to interact with very successful people at this mastermind. So it was a lot of fun.
Melissa: All right, so the first one, the first theme is to always be learning, always be a good student, be coachable. And that was a, a theme several of the speakers had said.
You need to be a good student of what you're learning. And an interesting piece of that, which we've noticed, which you've noticed at a couple different things that we go to, some of these people there have very successful businesses and they're making some good money. They really don't need to be in those rooms.
Like they could be going out and just, you know, hanging out with their friends and the cuz at whatever. They're in the front row, taking notes, taking multiple pages of notes. They're not just sitting there like on their phone. They are invested in whoever's speaking. And I think that's a, a huge thing. Absolutely.
To take away because how many people like you get to wherever, like, and you're like, oh, I'm good. I don't need to learn anymore. Like, I don't know, like it's just amazing that these, they really,
Rob: you can always grow, always grow, get better at what you're doing. So, and some of these people that were sitting in the front row, so they're probably a handful.
Maybe 10 or 12 presenters throughout the four days, maybe more than that. But the thing was, the people who were out there presenting, they have very successful businesses. They're presenting on stage. I, I don't know, it's between 500, 900 people total. Yeah. That were at this mastermind. So not huge, but not tiny either. The people who were presenting when they weren't presenting, the majority of them were sitting in the front row like Melissa said. They've already mastered business, they're doing amazing things, but they were still there learning, yeah. Taking notes, trying to figure out the best way that they can implement what the next speaker was talking about, how they can implement it into their business. So it's really, really cool to see that, and the underlying theme on that one is definitely always be coachable, always be learning, trying to get better and better at whatever you're doing. Get better and better at by learning and implementing what you're, what you're learning.
So that's definitely the first thing that we, we wanted to talk about.
Melissa: Because the second you think that you, there's nothing left to learn, then, you know, if you're already made it to the top and you're there, then you're gonna get knocked down. Absolutely. Because you can always, it doesn't matter what level you are, you are always.
You need to be a good student. Absolutely. And always learning. So.
Rob: Such a good point.
Melissa: That was a, a theme.
Rob: Number two.
Melissa: Number two, follow the people who are doing what you want to do so, and go model them and not copy what they're doing, but go model what they're doing because if they, like they have a business that you want, go model what they're doing.
Rob: Yeah. So. And it's picking a mentor, following that mentor, seeing what they're doing. If they, if you like, what their business is, if you like what they're doing, follow them, get close with them. I mean, you guys are here right now listening to the podcast. Hopefully you're enjoying this. But Melissa and I are constantly trying to bring better information up to date information.
We flip daily, we're flipping high profit items daily. So if you guys do like that, follow that stuff, try to listen, try to implement. The implement's huge. I mean, I think that's one of our points too. But implementing, not just taking in information, but action, taking action, massive action if you wanna see results is what you have to do.
So, yeah. And yeah, go ahead.
Melissa: No, I was just gonna add it, it goes into the next one too is to not, like, that's kinda number three, but don't follow too many of these people because we, I'm guilty of that too. Like I, you know, if I see these people, I love their business model or whatever, or I, you know, see influencers on social media and I want to follow what they're doing.
If you follow too many people, then you have totally different business models and totally different methods, and it's really hard to accomplish all of them. Yeah. So, and it's not saying like you have to, you're listening to our podcast right now, you can only follow us. No, that's not what we're saying. Like, but if you're really trying to model somebody, you know, whoever it is, you have to kind of weed out how many people you're trying to follow.
So if that makes sense.
Rob: Absolutely. I mean, we teach stuff different than a lot of other resellers out there. And we might not be your cup of tea, you might not enjoy it, but you enjoy the energy. So you're here listening to that. Whatever it is, is, guys, if you want results, find that one person. Find that person that you know has got results and follow them.
It's a business model that you want to take. Follow that person and just keep learning and learning and learning from that person.
Melissa: I think that also falls under the shiny object syndrome too, because it's easy to see. Like I remember one time, he's our, he's a good friend now. He's actually at the Mastermind.
Miguel was teaching a talk about Amazon and we were, we were actually in a coaching program with him eight years ago. Eight years ago. Eight years ago when we started this whole coaching thing. And he did Amazon and we watched his webinar that he did, and Robbie's like I'm gonna go do, let's go do Amazon.
Like this is amazing. But then we reeled him back in and said, no. Okay. It's, stay, focus, stay, stay focused. It's a, a different business model, so it's just, but if you try to do everything, then you end up not putting the enough energy into the one thing. Absolutely. So, and then you're, yeah, it just is a vicious cycle of shiny object, new thing to do.
Yeah. Shiny object, new thing to do. Whereas if you just put a little more energy into doing the thing that, you know, could work, pick that one thing. Pick that one thing. Yeah. So, absolutely. We've talked about that before too. Absolutely. That's good. All right, number four.
Rob: Number four.
Melissa: Being consistent, which is not a fun one to talk about.
No, but it's, it's true. Being consistent, so.
Rob: Absolutely, and this is something we've preached from the beginning of when we started doing coaching videos and stuff like that, trying to help people grow in their business. Consistency is huge. You do not see results unless you're consistent. You can apply this to any portion of your life, any portion of your business if you are not consistent, weight loss, if you're not, consist.
Working that program, working the program to lose weight, you're not gonna see consistent building your business. If you're not consistent in your business doing the, the foundational practices of the business, you're not gonna see results. You're not gonna do it. So consistency is huge in every single thing.
Melissa: Yeah. And if you're not consistent with listing your items, you're not gonna have no money. An eBay business. I love what I, Stacy says in our group, like, she's working this month for next month's payday, so she's listing this month for next month's payday. And it's true like it is, if you're not being consistent and getting your stuff listed, they can't sell.
It's not listed. Right. Absolutely can't sell. So being consistent, and that can get, you have to kind of look at what are the things that are, not are helping you or not helping you or keeping you from being consistent. So maybe it's your schedule, maybe it's your energy. Maybe there's something that might have to give you might, it's a little give and take.
Like what? Because motivation only goes so far. Like you can only, like you get on a high, I'm gonna do this, and then it's gone. So you have to kind of make that habit. Yeah. Over motivation. So, like what is it in your day? Like when can you do, take your pictures or what is it that you can do to help you be more consistent?
Absolutely. And what is keeping you from being consistent? So if you can identify those things, then you can eliminate the things that are keeping you from being consistent and have, do more of the things that are helping you. For sure. Such a great point. Just a side note. All right.
Rob: Number five.
Melissa: Get around people with big goals like you have.
So, I know know, a lot of times we'll hear when people are starting their eBay business or they'll, you know, their friends or, or, or just a reselling business in general. The friends or family would be like, what are you doing? Like, what are you, like, even when we did this full-time and we tell people that we sell on eBay, and they're like, that's a real gig?
Like, you can do that? Like, so I don't know, it's just kind of, but if you can surround yourself and you can, you're doing it right now just by listening to a podcast. So that is, is one form of doing it. But, if you can get around people that have like-minded goals, it's a, it's pretty powerful. So.
Rob: It is, it is.
And one of our favorite podcasts that we've listened to, JLD, John Lee Dumas, one of his, his, he's the way he signs off his podcast or definitely you're the average of the five most people that you hang out with. And that's true. Whoever you are surrounding yourself with that's gonna be part of what your drive is.
If you're surrounding yourself with people who are saying, yeah, you can't flip, you can't make a full-time income, that's really what's going to start living into what you are. If you're around those people. Now, if you're around people who are striving to get better and grow in their business, no matter what business it is, but really living into learning, being a student, striving to get better in their business, you, that's who you're gonna turn into.
You're gonna turn into that person. Who gets results, who does stuff. So, just definitely something to think about is the people who you are around definitely impact how you are, and it is such a true saying, and I don't know if JLD was the first one to say it. Probably not, somebody else, no, yeah, said it, but it, it is totally true. If you think about the people that you're around, excuse me, that you're hanging out with the, you can reflect back on your life and really see where your life's at for sure.
Melissa: Yeah. And you can notice too, as you start kind of changing your inner, I don't know, dialogue, dialogue with yourself when you're like trying to level up and you're gonna be more consistent, you're gonna be doing these things, you start to notice some more people who are, tend to be negative, like are, they tend to always like you. You're around them and they bring your energy down. Like you do notice that.
And it's, it's interesting and you know, we're not, we've said this before, we're not telling you to, you know, get rid of all your relationships, like whatever. That's not what we're saying, but you might have to limit some time that you spend with people. If you re realize they're not really helping you toward your goals, then maybe you just need to cut out some time that you're spending and absolutely do things or be around people that are gonna help you.
Rob: And it's powerful just to take note, I mean, within the last probably 10 years, I've really started to notice people that I have relationships with, friends, neighbors, people at church, and just noticing how they act and if they're uplifting or if they're constantly tearing down, and then even looking at their family members and their friends that they're close to and seeing how it has a huge effect on their life and what they're doing.
And you'll be so surprised if you start to look at some of your friends, some of your family people that you're around, and look at the people that they're around and see how it's a direct correlation of how they're acting. It's, it's gonna blow your mind. It really, really will if you start looking deep into this. It has for me, for the last 10 years. I've really taken note of those people who are close to me, who I spend time with, and the people who are around them and how it affects them. Just start doing that. Start, start, mentally taking a note of these people and who they're around and how they're acting.
And then it will either push you closer to them or push you a little bit further away from them and you'll, you'll start to see it. Yeah, that just a huge point that's helped me in the last 10 years.
Melissa: Yeah. So I was thinking about, so what can somebody do if they're trying to get around these people? I mean, you can do it on the internet, like that is one way to do. There's also places to meet offline. Like there's eBay meetups. There's different ways to get involved with people. Like we host a mastermind now for our coaching students, so we'll get together with them in a couple months, which is super awesome. But there's different ways, like even the reseller community online, like on YouTube and on Instagram is really cool.
Like there's a lot of great people. You do have to filter through some people that might be a little more high drama cause that's not our style. Yes. So, but we actually stayed away from the reseller community for a long time because we thought it was, we didn't want, like, we're not copying anybody. We don't wanna be like anybody else.
We just wanna stay, you know, this is what we're doing and whatever. But the more of the last two years we, you know, hosted the summit, The Reseller Summit, and we got to know a lot more. And we've been, we interview them on the podcast and we've got to know so many cool people that if we wouldn't have tried to get to know people, like we wouldn't have known that there are some really awesome resellers up there. Absolutely so. And very motivating and very positive. And so it's a pretty cool community if you get involved with it, so. Absolutely. And that's just online and just being involved in, in, in what they're doing.
And then there's some Facebook groups too. So, there's different ways to get involved.
Rob: A lot of ways to surround yourself with uplifting like-minded people. There are a lot of ways now that we have the internet, now that we have all this stuff around us, all these tools around us. You totally can do it.
Melissa: So you just have to make the decision not to let it go the other way too, because, absolutely, you can get in a spiral of negativity too.
Rob: Absolutely. So cool.
Melissa: The last one's a bonus. So bonus, bonus one is, Take action. So take action on massive action. Yes, take massive action on your goals, on what you wanna do. Set a goal for yourself and you, it's awesome to plan things out, what you wanna do, but you have to move forward.
You have to implement them. Otherwise, Obviously they're not gonna happen. And that's the hardest part I feel like. It's like so many people have great intentions, they learn a lot and they're great learners, but it's the action piece that there's something that you're getting in your own way and maybe it's you're afraid of making mistakes.
Yeah. Maybe it's, you know, things that you're telling yourself, I, I'm gonna try this and it's gonna fail. I've tried it in the past, or I tried something else and it failed. So maybe you're just in your inner dialogue. But you have to take action. If you make mistakes, that's okay. Nothing is, you can figure everything out.
Rob: So it's huge. It's huge. I even, and while you were talking, I was thinking about one of my friends who is super smart, brilliant, and reads like crazy, learns like crazy, but the one piece to what he is missing is implication. Action. Implementation. Yeah. Implementation, sorry. Action. Action. Implementation.
And really taking massive action that he knows so much has learned so much. Super smart. Yeah. For the last five years, he's almost in the same exact situation. He has not grown in his business and that kind of stuff to where, yeah, it's just one of those things that you have to take massive action. When you start to learn, if you don't, it's just knowledge in your head and you can't do anything with it. It's just sitting in your head. You have to take action with what you're, what you're learning.
Melissa: Yeah. And then it's just kind of snowballs. You keep go and then the, it's, what's the word I'm looking for anyways? It just, yeah.
You grow and then you learn and you learn as you're doing, and then you're also, yeah. More, more. Making more sales or doing whatever because you're learning and you're growing and you're doing the thing that you wanted to do.
Rob: Absolutely. So, yeah. Awesome. If you guys wanna learn more about this flipping game Melissa and I call our business, go check out.
