Over $40,000 Found On Our Cross-Country Road Trip!
Rob: What's up, guys! Super excited. We're coming to the end of week three on the road, and got some killer, killer deals while we've been out traveling the US. As you can see, I just pulled everything out of the trailer. We're gonna talk about a couple of them, give you guys some numbers, let you know what our last, which is it, eight, nine, 10?
Melissa: Eight, nine, and 10. So we have three more finds since our last video. Eight, nine, and 10. Nine
Rob: And they are the best.
Melissa: They're... It's getting better, I feel like- It is ... as we go. It is ... for the most part. We had that one, really good find, earlier on, but, they're, it's getting more worth more.
Rob: It is, yeah. We're, we're snagging some good, good deals. I will say- Not paying a lot of money ...
Melissa: I will say that Rob was sitting here just a little bit ago trying to figure out how everything is gonna fit back in that trailer, because we ended up picking some of the things up on a different trailer while we were at our friend's house in an extended hitch.
So it will be a fun, a fun thing to figure out.
Rob: It will. But. It absolutely will. And I think I figured it all out, so I'm pretty sure we can get it all back into the trailer like Tetris. And it's gonna be sweet, and we have our grand total of everything that we've found so far.
Melissa: Yep.
Rob: Excited. We're excited.
This is by far our best road trip yet for being able to find the profit on the road while we've been traveling.
Melissa: All right, so let's dive in. Sweet ... find number eight. Actually, eight and nine go together. They are two items of the same item that you found, here at while we were in Boise, right?
Rob: Yeah, yeah.
Melissa: And, you found them on Marketplace. I did. And what are they?
Rob: So they are a laboratory machine, something that you test asphalt with. I have no idea what it is, what it does, but I threw it into our analyzer. It told me that it was worth a lot of money, so I negotiated a deal. The guy actually, I think he started at $1,000, marked it down to $500, marked it down to $250.
And then I saw another one in the background, so I asked him if he had two, and if I took both, if he would do $200 a piece. So $400 total. He jumped on it and said, "Absolutely," so we snagged them, picked them up...
Melissa: it's right back there ...
Rob: the other day. If you see back here, it's the black machine over there on the dolly. two of those bad boys. Yeah, so killer, killer deals. We're gonna make great money. 200 bucks a piece, and I'm gonna list them for $10,000, $9,999 we're gonna list them apiece, for that. They are over, I believe it's $15,000 to $20,000 machines. Retail. Retail. So, and they are not that old.
They're in really, really good condition. I think they're less than a year old. So really, really good shape. Amazing, amazing find that we were able to find up here. Super excited about that one. That right there will push us over 20K off of a $400 investment. Very, very excited about that one.
Melissa: And we're gonna get those listed hopefully tonight before-
Rob: Hopefully. Already got the tests on that and already took the pictures. They're ready to go. We just have to get them listed. So we will be working on that in the next day. If we don't get it done tonight, we get back on the road to head back to the east side of the country- ... and we'll have some time on the road while we're on the road to be able to do that.
Melissa: Yep. So that was eight and nine. And then find number 10. So we actually, this is a little this was fun because we actually, had a home base here in Boise for a couple days, and then decided I really love the West Coast. I love, like, some of the national parks up near, you know, Oregon and Washington, and I really wanted to go.
Mount Rainier is one of my favorites that we've only been to one other time. And so I was like, "I wanna go back." And then I wanted to go see North Cascades National Park 'cause we've never been there. So what we did was we dropped the trailer, we left it here. We went to go head to those two parks.
Ended up stopping in Seattle, too, to see the Space Needle, which was really cool. But on our first stop before we got to Mount Rainier Rob found something on Marketplace, and we don't have our trailer, and it won't fit in the truck.
Rob: So we left the trailer here. I found this one, amazing, amazing deal.
I really, really like this. I've never... I've seen these before, but I've never been able to get one. They're usually asking way too much money. You have seen them before? I have. Asking way too much money. This one, the price was right. 200 bucks is what we spent on it. I offered, the person $100, and she came back and said, "I'm selling it for a friend," and she said she won't go lower than $200.
And I said, "No problem. I will take it at $200. Can we pick it up today?" She messaged back and said yes. Now the only problem was we were in our Excursion. We did not have the trailer. I did not have.
Melissa: Seven hours away from the trailer.
Rob: Had no way of doing it, but I had to figure out what to do. So my quickest solution was to go buy an extended hitch from Harbor Freight.
I actually looked on Marketplace for an extended hitch, and I found one for $55, messaged the person. They didn't write me back, so we went over to Harbor Freight, and we were able to get one, but it took an hour to actually put the whole thing together.
Melissa: It wasn't put together, so we had to. Yes ... put the whole thing together sit there, and was it, what are the little bolts?
The, that they were a pain in the butt.
Rob: I didn't have any of my tools. All my tools were in the trailer- ... so I had to buy some crescent wrenches that we were able to use to put the whole thing together. But we got it together in an hour. We went and picked the thing up, which it surprised me at first. I was planning on just picking it up and putting it on top of the truck.
The, the Excursion, and I thought. That wouldn't happen ... how much can this thing weigh? When we got there, it was 500 to 600 pounds, so way, way, way too big and too heavy, to pick up. So it's a good thing we did get the extended hitch.
It is.
Melissa: And it will still be worth it with the $150 you spent in the extended hitch.
Rob: We spent $120 on the extended hitch, and then after that we bought some more blankets, which we'll reuse the blankets, but blankets and straps were on sale, so we bought those at Harbor Freight, got some more stuff with that. So yeah.
Melissa: Which you use all the time anyway.
Rob: We do. We do.
Melissa: And it was just me, you, and the, the lady who pushed it up.
Like, we lifted one half onto the thing, and it balanced it, and then lifted the other half onto it. So I mean, it worked. Luckily we did have the extended hitch. If we had the trailer, though, you could just roll it right up. Yeah. And that would've been a little bit easier. But it's this bike right behind Rob, so.
Rob: I don't know if you can see that one. A really, really cool exercise bike that we got. I don't know what it is. I think it's, a Rom is the name brand, and it's a four-minute workout is what they're known for. Really, really cool. Excited about that one. Like I said, I've seen them before but never actually been able to buy one, because they always want too much money.
We paid $200 for it, and I'm gonna list it for $5,000. I think retail on it is $7,000 to $10,000. I'm gonna list it for $5,000 and ship it, and I'm pretty sure I'll sell that one fairly quick. Pretty excited about that one, like I said.
Melissa: There's no other listed, right?
Rob: There are other ones listed- Or is it, but nobody's willing to ship them. Okay. And that's our specialty, so I will be shipping, this bad boy, and I'll be able to ship it for a really, really good deal, to where we'll be able to turn it hopefully f- super quick. Yeah. I'm hoping in less than 30 days we'll have this thing sold.
And that's something that, like I, we've been getting a lot of comments lately on one of our, videos, and they're not, people don't understand why, like how come people are selling it for so cheap in the local market?
And a lot of the times it's because they just want it gone. Yeah. Like, they're clearing out their garage, they're clearing out their house, they just want it gone. They don't wanna mess with it. They don't wanna figure out how to ship it. And really, offering shipping on these items on eBay is just, it brings it to so many more people that can just order it and have it shipped to them.
And so that's why we can get still less than retail, they're still getting a good deal, but we can still get more for the, more of what it's worth than just listing it locally.
Absolutely. So. Absolutely.
Melissa: So.
Rob: Just wanted to throw that out there ... that brings us to 10. The totals. Oh yeah, let's talk about the totals.
All right. What do we have for our grand? are you going through them and talking about them? Can I go through them real quick? Yeah, hit it.
Melissa: All right. So just to recap, the first one we got was the oven for $100.
Rob: $100 oven. That one. That one is right here behind us on that side ...
Melissa: you're gonna list it for, $3,000.
Rob: $3,500. It should be between $3,000, $3,500 bucks.
Melissa: We're trying to be more conservative. The $10,000's on the higher side of the other one. But most of these are more conservative. Yeah. I feel like, yeah, we- the $10,000 I don't think is high. I think we'll easily be able to get 10K for it. The two- number two was the heater.
The... That was a cool one.
Rob: Mr. Heater. We got a sweet. Yeah. Where is it? diesel heater. It's right back there past this, yellow machine, that we got. It's on the other side of that. Mr. Heater, 125,000 BTU heater, and it's a little bit different than a, like a tornado heater. It's, it's pretty cool, but we got that paid...
What did we pay for that, $100 and?
Melissa: $100, a- and you said it should sell for $1,000.
Rob: $100 to $1,000, and yeah, that's conservative as well. I probably could get between 1,000 and $1,500. We'll give you the conservative numbers on these, just to know that we're gonna make the money that we are.
Melissa: The sewing machine we picked up at the thrift store did not quite meet our, 10X- Yeah business model, but you still picked it up.
Rob: It was cool. For 50 bucks. It was vintage. I really liked it. 50 bucks, and I knew,... So Singer makes one. It's a Featherweight, sewing machine that I've... I've seen them for years, and I've never been able-
Melissa: I thought this was a featherweight.
Rob: It is a Featherweight. Oh. But it's not made by Singer, so I don't know if Featherweight is actually, like the model or the style. But it's a small, compact sewing machine. It's made by a different company. I forget the name of the company right now. Yeah. But still worth, 200 bucks. 200 bucks. We'll be able to sell it for at least 200 bucks.
So $50 to $200 on that one. Yeah. That was find number three.
Melissa: The trash compactor for $100 on Marketplace.
Rob: Compactor, if you look in the back of the trailer right there, the compactor- Oh. ... is still up there. And we paid $100 for that. Should be able to sell that no problem for, what did I say, $1,000?
Melissa: $1,000.
Rob: Yeah. $1,000 to $1,500 again. Safe side, we'll say $1,000 just for purposes of, yeah, making it, conservative on- the flip on side.
Melissa: Then the Wolf was your favorite one so far.
Rob: Wolf is- ... until
Melissa: we got these last ones for-
Rob: Yep, Wolf was amazing. If you can see, it's the big boy right here. That- It's taking up a great trough of the barn now
is, definitely will be a fun one to sell. We'll-
Melissa: It was the most we spent this whole trip on. It was ... any one item, which was $1,000, but it should bring in 10 grand.
Rob: Typically I do not like to spend that much money, but on this one I know it will sell fairly quick and, we'll be able to make a lot of money on it, so it's still is gonna 10X.
If we go from $1,000, I said conservatively $7,000-$10,000. I'm gonna list it at $10,000 and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to sell it because I will ship it. One of those things that I'm pretty sure we'll be able to get 10K for it. Retail on this, I don't know, it's well over 20K- for the retail value of this.
So we'll be able to make some good money on that as well. I was very excited about that one until we found a couple of these other ones.
Melissa: Number six was the hazmat suits.
Rob: Hazmat suits! If you look over there, right past it in the boxes.
Melissa: Those boxes ... right there. We have five new hazmat suits that we picked up for $85 each.
One also they gave threw in for free that's out of box, that is still new, but it's out of box. Yep. But you actually wore it, so you probably can't count it as new anymore.
Rob: No, it's definitely not new, but at the same time we got five new ones- Yeah ... and we'll sell those. We'll list those for $800 a piece.
They
Melissa: retail for, like, $1,200 to $1,500. I
Rob: think it's 1,200 bucks a piece retail, so we're gonna sell them under that. Still brand new in the box, so we shouldn't have a problem getting that money out of that as- Yeah ... either.
Melissa: Number seven was the game, which we're not including in the totals because we're not gonna...
The goal is not really to flip it. You just like it- I like it, yeah ... for nostalgia.
Rob: If you see, that's the yellow one right here behind us.
Melissa: It's an antique Operation game.
Rob: Operation game. It's got a little claw handle that goes down and goes into the guy for Operation. Love it. Nostalgic about it. We've always gone to Chuck E. Cheese, with our kids for their birthdays. One of my favorite games to play inside Chuck E. Cheese. So I was super excited.
Melissa: And only Chuck E. Cheese has it. Yeah ... and they throw them away and try to destroy them, so this guy got it, and it was pretty cool. So it'll be like a project of just for our own to keep.
Yeah.
And if you did want to sell it, you said we should sell for around four grand.
Rob: If, if I do get... There's, it needs a little bit of work, but if I get it done, yes, it should sell between four and five thousand bucks.
Melissa: We're not gonna include that in the totals. Yeah. You only got it for $40. You only spent 40 bucks on it.
Rob: 40 bucks. Yeah. Okay. So I could absolutely just throw it away, and it's not that big of a deal, but I really, really wanted it. So it's bigger, but yeah, I wanted to take it home.
Melissa: Kinda took up a little much room in the trailer.
Rob: I did. I kind of wish, 'cause I could actually make more money on some other stuff and count it as totals, and this is, we're just kind of keeping it- as ourselves, keeping it out of the whole deal. We might try to find that locally. But it is a lot more, a, takes a lot more room than I had expected. So. All right. So. That's okay. That one's out of it all together, but we just told you that we bought it, 'cause I think that was find number four or five, whatever.
Melissa: That was seven.
Rob: Seven.
Melissa: We're on eight and nine.
Rob: Eight and nine.
Melissa: Eight and nine we just talked about were those, asphalt machines that you bought for $200 each, and if they sell for $10,000 each is the, what we're gonna list them for. And then number 10 was the bike or... Is it a bike? It's not a bike. It's an exercise- Exercise machine, exercise machine.
Rob: Yeah.
Melissa: We got for $200, and we're gonna list for $5,000. So that brings our grand total of money spent to $2,375.
Rob: And. $2,375 ...
Melissa: and our total amount that we are projected to sell for is $44,200.
Rob: What? So. Just under $45,000 on all these items behind us. Super, super excited. Fit them into that small trailer.
That trailer is not that big. I think it's a 14-foot V-nose trailer. We were able to get all that stuff inside of there, and, $40,000, almost $45,000 worth of stuff.
Melissa: And we still have one mystery item we haven't talked about yet.
Rob: So. We sh- we should've, we should've added up all the retail value, 'cause that's pretty cool, too.
We can. The retail value of all this. So maybe.
Melissa: We still have to do a recap. We're not done with our trip yet.
Rob: Maybe on our next video we'll do a retail, showing the retail of all these items, which is insane.
Melissa: And then what the resale value is.
Rob: Yeah. So. Resale versus retail.
Melissa: Yeah. No, that's awesome. So we're excited.
We are. We're gonna get packed up. We might find a couple things on our trek back to the East Coast. But it's been a successful trip for us so far. Yep. And we're excited.
So.
Rob: Been amazing. Hopefully you guys have enjoyed the trek. Already I'm excited about $45,000 worth of items. If we do stop at any other, other thrift stores, find some small items, we'll be able to put them in.
Can't get really any bigger items- ... because the trailer is gonna be full of all these items. So excited. Super excited about it. Hopefully you guys have enjoyed it. We'll keep you guys posted on the sales
once they're listed ... on the sales of these, 'cause that's the important part. And yeah, we'll-
Melissa: We're not just out here to collect items.
Rob: We're not. We're not.
Melissa: We want to sell them.
Rob: And all of these items I have hand-selected and I think will be amazing, amazing quick flips, that we'll be able to turn them around fairly quickly. So very, very excited about them.
Melissa: All right, you guys. Thanks so much for hanging out with us.
Rob: You rock. Have an amazing day, and we'll see you on the next video.
