Flip It For Christmas Challenge - Interview With Joanna Bradley
Rob: What's up, pro flippers? On today's episode we have a special treat for you. We're talking with Joanna Bradley. Joanna is a Flipper U alumni and she had to go through some, busting through some limiting beliefs when she first started her flipping business. So we get to dive into that and how she got through some of those.
And so we hope that you enjoy today's episode.
Melissa: Should have gotten the hang of this by day six, right?
Rob: What's up guys? Welcome. Welcome. Welcome. We're very, very excited about this presentation today or this, this interview that Joanna Bradley has jumped on and so graciously offered to come in here, answer some questions.
And yeah, hopefully, show you guys a little bit of the potential that lies ahead of you, in this business. So I'm super excited to have her.
Melissa: So yeah, so let's go ahead and bring Joanna on. Thanks so much for hopping on with us for a few minutes and even when you're away on vacation, and yeah, so thanks so much.
Joanna: Thank you. Thank you. I love it. I love to be able to talk to you guys and share my story with everybody. So, it is my seventh wedding anniversary today and I'm in a hotel and my family is sitting on our porch outside in front of the pool.
Melissa: I love it! And you told us that this trip was paid for by flipping, right?
Joanna: A hundred percent made by flipping. Yep. Awesome.
Rob: Awesome. Awesome. That is so awesome. Yeah, we'll dig into that for sure and talk a little bit more about that for sure. So, but first of all, thank you for jumping on here and doing this. I greatly appreciate you. If you guys don't know, Joanna has been around, man, what's it been, Joanna? Five years and time flies when you're having fun. So Joanna has been part of our family for five years now. And more recently she's come in and even helped us on the back end of actually helping us coach, some of the stuff because she's got amazing results and she's amazing at finding items and helping people out.
So we're very, very blessed to have her as part of our family and have her helping us out with this business, it's so awesome.
Melissa: So, so take us back kind of when you did, like, how did you find us? And where were you at? And like, at that point in time in your life?
Joanna: I was miserable in a job and I didn't really want to go get another job at that point, I just wanted something for me and I had flipped, you know, when my daughter was younger and I came across you guys and it was like this big light bulb that went off for me.
Like. You can really make money. Like I've made a little bit, you know what I mean? Made $20 off of this or $50 off of this, but just very. Like off and on and so I was just super exciting that I could do something that I have a little bit of experience in, but learned so much more from you guys. So it was it was the light bulb five years ago
Melissa: Yeah, and I think you came from the working home, school, right like that's how you found us was that back in the day when we were a part of that.
So that's pretty cool
Joanna: Yeah, that was that was the program that was offering like workshops on all different people that worked at work from home or work for themselves more or less. And so that was kind of exciting because it was exploring all kinds of options. But even though I bought into that.
Really? I mean, I tried a couple of things, but I just went straight for you guys.
Rob: We actually know the person who put on the work at home school and their strategy for this and she reached a million people with this work at home school that she did. Her strategy for all these other side hustles and people, that she was, yeah, their strategy was to use our program first to pay for their program because it was the quickest money you could make.
Exactly. By far the quickest money that you could totally make. So, which is really cool to be a part of that as well, showing people the potential of this business and in a short timeframe, even you guys, a lot of you guys have even wrote in and said, hey, I made $200. I made $400, made $500, all the different amounts that you guys have made.
And we've done this in a week, you guys have start to finish in a week and you've been able to do this. Just imagine if you really learn some amazing skills to go to the next level, what the potential is. So anyways, I'm all, this is not about me.
Joanna: This really ties into that. Like that was the first time I really invested in myself and I made up that money, made that money back in a couple months and it was the best thing that I ever did. So that shows me that investing in myself was really important.
Rob: Yeah. And definitely something Melissa and I believe in wholeheartedly. I mean, we're constantly investing in our knowledge and coaches and that kind of thing.
So we, this is not something that we sell coaching. It's something that we totally believe in. Because we're doing it on a daily, a daily routine with us, weekly, monthly. So, but yeah, let's jump ahead.
Melissa: Yeah. So what has life been like since you did jump in and join the flipping family that we have?
Joanna: Life has been so different because we really used to have to save, you know, like starting like spring I'd save for Christmas, but, you know, tuck money away for Christmas, for vacations. It was really saving for vacations and now we have this flipping pot of money, which that sounds funny. But we have done so many amazing things and I, it's just.
I don't stress about it, and I make an extra car payment, and I pay this off, and we have amazing vacations, and we are like, oh, let's go on this weekend for our anniversary, and I don't blink because I just keep stockpiling my flipping pot of money.
Melissa: That's awesome. Can you tell us a little bit about the camper that you got?
Cause I know that was a big moment for you and you, cause you handed the guy cash and it was like, it was $9,000 right? And, and it was all paid for by flipping, but can you kind of, what were you thinking at that point?
Joanna: Well, we were looking, we had just a little pop up camper and we were looking to kind of upgrade and I had my eyes out.
And we had cash from flipping and I found this one on a Friday night and I showed it to Mike and it was two hours away and there was no way to pull the money out and get there and she was like, I don't know if I can hold it. I have a ton of people interested and this is a skill I learned from flipping is I thought quick and I said.
What if I send you a deposit and you hold it for me until tomorrow morning and we went and got cash and went and got it in the morning and I was so nervous we went in the bank and I pulled out $9,000 worth of cash. I've never held that much money and I thought it would just, I thought, oh my God, I want to hand over all this money, you know, but it was really empowering because I knew that I could just keep building the pot of money and I handed it over and it's just been such an amazing thing. We spend, you know, fall break and spring break and summer vacations in it and it's, it's just amazing. That's awesome.
Melissa: I love that. And it's super cute, too. You shared it in our group, those pictures of it.
It's super cute.
Joanna: It's super cute.
Melissa: Yeah. I did want to touch also on the, the part where when you jumped in, like when you first joined. You found out that like Stacy was one of our members and now she helps us too, but she isn't in your area and you see her finding and flipping some of these bigger items in these, you're like, how is she finding these items?
Can you take us back to that and like what you were thinking and how you got through that and now you help us find stuff for other people and I, and you're amazing at it. So like, what was the transition? What happened?
Joanna: Yeah, that was interesting. Cause I was selling, you know, I had sold stuff out of my house and then I would buy stuff from thrift stores and I was selling like $20 and $50 items.
And I'm watching Stacey who literally lives 30 minutes away from me, find sleep number after sleep number and cooktop after cooktop. And when I would open Facebook, I didn't see any of those things. And so I, Remember being kind of frustrated, like she's just lucky. And one day I thought she's not lucky.
She's just looking better than you. Like they're here. Come on. And so I just started doing different searches. I started looking more often. I started looking, finding an art area that. Fridays were really big listing days for people because they wanted it listed over the weekends. I started search terms were different I started changing my eye to see like somebody would list a sleep number bed as a mattress But I could pick out the little sleep number symbol on the side.
So it was just that complete change of Why, why is she the only one finding them?
Rob: Absolutely. That's awesome. It is true. It's a mindset shift up. If somebody else can do it, I can do it too. And I'm going to figure out how to do it. How can I do it? If I'm not getting the results right now, one of my favorite quotes is, you're going to mess it up, yeah I know. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. So everything, I mean, you knew what you were doing wasn't working, so you started shifting your mind. Okay. How can I make this work? And that is a key in everything and every aspect of life. If you don't like the results you're getting right now.
What are you willing to change to get those results? And you did it. You changed it. And now, like Melissa said, Joanna's in here helping us find, not just for us, for some of our students, she helps us find amazing, high profit flips. We just went over this the other day. One of our coaching students, and Joanna, one of our coaching students, that we were helping for the last, I think it was about three or four months Joanna started tallying up how much she, she actually helped her and Jenny helped him find. And it was over $75,000 worth of stuff, worth of inventory within the last couple months. This is like three months, not even a whole year. This is within a couple months. She was able to help people do that.
And going from somebody who, Joanna, you were flipping, you know, $10, $20, $30 items and going from there to now being able to find tens of thousands of dollars of items is just awesome. And it's so, so exciting for us to see the mind shift in you and how you're able to change your mind and really get the results.
That is, you have no idea how cool that is for us as well.
Joanna: Well, I think I've turned into you because I'm sitting in the hotel room this morning looking for items because we're two hours from home.
Melissa: Cause they're like, what can I get while I'm here and turn this trip into a work trip, right?
Rob: You're going to write off. Your write off. I love it. I love it. So that's so awesome. So cool.
Joanna: I'm trying to get $1,000 cooktop for $50. Like. Well, it's $50 listed, but it will make me a thousand dollars. So I'm waiting for him to write me back.
Rob: That's awesome.
Melissa: That's a game that he does all the time. It's like a game. It's like, okay, well how can I pay for this trip? You already paid for it from flipping, but how can you know, like, I, how can we pay more money while we're on the trail? We're on the trip. It's just kind of, it's so cool. It's so fun. Part of a kind of a fun game.
I was going to ask you when you were thinking about jumping in. So I know you kind of ran with our program, but the work at home school, you had to invest in yourself. So what, did you have hesitation doing that and how did you work through that?
Joanna: Well, I found it and I was listening to like the free summit before the investment part, and I just didn't feel like it was possible.
I didn't have the money. I hadn't really told my husband about it because I just felt like, I don't know, like, I just, I just didn't feel like it was going to go. And I remember it was Valentine's Day actually. And I came home and I told him about it and he was like, did you do, you know, did you do your research?
Is it really real? And I said, oh, I really did my research and it is. It's a lot of money. And, you know, I was cooking, I think I was cooking spaghetti and he went like to the, but we finished our talk and went to the bathroom. He had asked me a couple of questions about like, what was it called? You know?
And he came back and said. Done. I said, what do you mean? Done? He said, I bought it for you.
Rob: I didn't even know that part. I didn't either, but that is awesome. That is really cool.
Melissa: You, he supported you in that decision and how'd you, that's awesome. That's really cool. He's a cool guy. I think he's a keeper. On your anniversary.
So very cool. And so, what was my other question that I had? So who do you think would be a good fit for like going through with our program? Like who is this for do you think? And now that you've heard a lot.
Joanna: I've thought about this question because I'm a mom of technically four in a blended family, but we have two at home, two teenagers.
So it's absolutely a benefit for me. But I thought about, I mean, it's, it's, it could work for anybody really honestly. I've taught my mom how to do it. My mom is gonna be 80 years old and she lives in Maine and she's doing it smaller scale not the giant stuff, but she's doing it. Mike's parents are doing it they just remodeled the kitchen and and they flipped all of their stuff instead of they normally would just donate it, you know, and so really could work for anybody.
It would be a great supplement to income. It has supplied my family so much. I can't even list it. Anybody, I would think stay at home moms would be ideal. Families can do it together. You guys have been a great example of bringing your kids into it. So really anybody, anybody that wants to work. You know, work at it.
You have to work at anything. So put a little work into it and the benefits are amazing. That's awesome.
Melissa: And you had started before you jumped in. You, you said you did like baby stuff when you had, when your kids were little, right? So when they were babies, you had, you would just sell some of their extra stuff on the side, right?
Joanna: Yeah. Because kids use things for like three months, you know, and they're expensive. saucer thing for like $25. I sold it for $50 because it was way more worth way more. I bought like the little tykes, like a little slide that we had in our family room and then grew out of that and bought the big tykes table, like picnic table, a water table.
I mean, a big playground equipment thing in the backyard that I actually sold to somebody for double what I bought it for and she used it for her goats.
Melissa: You never know what people need for whatever reason. That's cool.
Joanna: I bought the crib I bought Aubrey's crib for a hundred dollars. It was some really fancy brand.
I sold it for $300.
Melissa: Wow, that is such a benefit to this business. We talked, we did, we talked about this sometimes is that you, you save money because you're looking for deals. So you save yourself money yourself. Like all of our stuff in our house is like used items and you can still find nice stuff. So it's pretty cool.
It's a little side benefit of this business, right? So.
Joanna: It's a side benefit. Yeah.
Melissa: Did you quit your day job?
Joanna: I did not quit my day job. I, I could, I'm kind of in a point in my life where I'm really enjoying my day job. And so I have, I have not, I could turn this into full time pretty easily.
But I have not.
Rob: That's awesome. Yeah, and just so some of you guys know, yeah, Joanna actually has a full time job, but she also helps us out. So we actually pay Joanna as well, to do coaching where she jumps in and she helps people find stuff. And then she's still on the side is flipping, like we said, that money that she made to be where she's at right now is from flipping items.
Melissa: We did most of that this week though, for that, for this thing, you made $1,100. Was it all marketplace too?
Joanna: Yeah, that's awesome. I have some stuff that I am wanting to clean out. So here's, okay, we have a huge laundry room. So right off the back of our garage, it's a really big room. And then off of that is a smaller room.
And we've always just kind of thrown stuff in there and done laundry in there. And, I hired a friend to help me recently do some cleaning and listing and stuff for me. And she said, why haven't you turned your laundry room around, flipped the laundry into the smaller storage room and made this your family room?
Because I've talked about for years, building on a family room, she was like, flip the washer and dryer around. And you have this huge room for a family room. So we're actually remodeling. And I have stuff that needs to get out. And so some stuff I, yeah, I've listed quite a bit on Facebook marketplace recently and I quite a bit more on eBay.
So.
Rob: That's awesome. That's really cool.
Melissa: Very cool. And then you pay for the remodel with some flip of the day.
Joanna: Yeah. We're buying a mini split, which is like a heater, air conditioner for, for that room. Cause it doesn't have great cooling and heating yet. And, all new flooring and all new paint. And I'm actually going to move the living room furniture in from the house.
And I'm going to buy a new couch and stuff for the other room.
Melissa: So that's awesome. Very cool. What is something else like, as far as like a mindset, you're so good at when you talk to people on mindset. And so like, I, I've seen some of your conversations with people and. What, what would you tell somebody to encourage somebody if they don't think like they're not sure that they could find the items or sell the items or ship or whatever it is, that's maybe holding them back.
Like what is something that they can take away from and do to kind of change that?
Joanna: Yeah. I think what, what I did in the start is I started looking at people that were successful, whatever that looked like to me. And I started realizing that I thought success was for other people like, oh, that's just for them.
And I started asking myself, like, well, why, why would that just be for them? And so I ask all of you, why would that just be for me or you or anybody else? Like you deserve to be successful, whatever that looks like to you, just like anybody else. And so I had to flip that mindset and start believing that success, whatever that looked like to me was for me.
And I believe it. And it really changes everything. It gives you the ability to, to look different and think different and believe in yourself. And man, the first time I paid for a vacation and the camper and all of these things that we've been allowed, been afforded to do by flipping, it is so empowering.
It's so empowering to not stress, you know, so many Christmases of being stressed and stuff like that. And so ask yourself why does somebody else deserve this more than me? You know, why are these people able to find this or do this or go here and I'm not? Because you're just as deserving of as anybody else. You just have to flip your mindset.
Melissa: That's awesome. Absolutely. I love listening to you talk. You're so wise. Like you have such wisdom about, it's, it's
great.
Melissa: I wanted to come back to what you said too on, the like you don't stress and when you said to like if now if you want to go do something you you have this in your back pocket it's like an extra tool and we feel the same way so like if we know something happens or we need to go like we can go we have a skill.
That we can go make money. Like if we get in a hard spot, we have a skill that we can go make money. So, and whatever you need is something happens, you know? So I don't know. It's just, it's a nice, cause I'm a planner. This one is not so like, he doesn't like to plan for much. He's more like we're going on vacation in two weeks.
Let's go, you know, find a way to pay for it, but that helps me a lot to not stress, like you said, because I'm not, I know, like, if we get into, if something happened and we get into a bind, like, or we want to go do something, I know that he can go and sell a couple extra things. And it does, it does, it's like an extra, what's, yeah, take stress away, I guess, would be the word.
Joanna: It's a peace of mind.
Melissa: Peace of mind, that's the word that I was looking for.
Joanna: No, there were a lot of times in my life where I didn't have that. I mean, where I would be like, maybe I could, before I found you, maybe I could sell this thing for $20 just to get through the week, you know? I was a single mom for several years, and I had no help, and there were times where it was really tight.
And I had, you know, $20 till payday to get gas and, and food and stuff, and so this piece of mind behind me is... is priceless. So I'm just like anybody else. And I've been there. I've been there where money was so, so, so tight and you don't have to stay there.
Rob: Yeah, absolutely.
Melissa: Absolutely. That's for sure.
Rob: So motivating. So awesome. Yeah. Just to listen to your story, listen, kind of your growth. It's been so awesome. And Melissa and I, yeah, we've got to see it up close and personal. Getting to know you and Mike, just from jumping in and you getting results and then actually coming on board with us. So, so cool. It's amazing that you're part of our family. We absolutely love you and Mike. And, yeah, thank you for jumping on here with us and doing this with us for sure.
Joanna: Well, I love it. And I could not be more thankful to both of you and just such amazing role models and support and just amazing people. I was thinking at that mastermind, the one on one coaching mastermind, I did a training on mindset and I even, I had been researching and I read this thing about celebrating failures or, you know, things that were not wins and so I did that in that training and I've been really doing that lately. And so fear of failure is a huge thing that stops people from moving forward. And failure is actually what makes you stronger and it's what makes you learn more. If you never had any struggles, I don't think that you would learn or be, you know, where you can be.
And so stopping to celebrate your, your non wins or fails is okay, because it was just a learn, you don't fail, you learn. So I've been really incorporating that and remembering if something doesn't work out, you know, there's something else.
Rob: Absolutely. That is so true. I mean, you just think about any time of huge, huge growth in your life, where you actually on autopilot going to your work every day, doing the same thing over and over and over where you, did you have a huge breakthrough or is it in a time of need a time that you failed or you, you really were struggling somewhere where you actually had the opportunity to learn and grow. And just what you said, it really hits the nail on the head. Yeah, when you do have those failures, that gives you the potential to grow, to learn how to navigate it and get better and better. So that's awesome. That's such an amazing mind shift in a mind, for anybody to really realize and work through, it's really, really huge.
Melissa: Well, I even think of Jacque, who we were working with, and she told something, I think it was a NordicTrack, and when she did the shipping, like, we were working with her, and when she went to go ship it, she wasn't really going to make any money, like, so we were like, well, you have an option to cancel the transaction if you want to, you know, tell the buyer you're sorry, or you can go through with it, and she decided to go through with it and learn from what she did. And she ended up making, I think, in like, you know, four months, $11,000, but she went and took that and learned from it and didn't do that mistake again.
So, and, and I, I don't know, I thought that was pretty cool to, to witness.
Joanna: Mindset is kind of contagious because you spread it around people that you're around, but it also can go into teaching your kids that and living that, you know, I don't have a fear mindset anymore. I'm not. I'm not scared of failure.
I'm, I'm empowered. I have a way to make money when I need it. I have a savings that affords us to do what we want to do. And I'm not, I'm not scared. And so it really translates into so many places in your life when you're able to do it. And that's a process you have to work with yourself on it, you know.
But it can be done. Believe me.
Melissa: That's awesome. What was your biggest obstacle at the beginning?
Joanna: Fear. I'm a watcher. So when I was first in the flipping for profit group, I would really watch other people and I, I just was, I just was nervous. So it was my confidence built kind of by watching other people do it.
And then building myself up to tell myself I could do it. And then I don't remember what it was. The first thing finally was like, I need to make a hundred dollars off of a flip. I don't want to keep flipping $10 and $20. I want to make a hundred dollars. And I think it was like a BUNN coffee maker or something like that.
And I made I made a hundred dollars and I was like, oh yeah, I'm not flipping $10 and $20 anymore. Nope. So $100 it is.
Melissa: You brought up your base level.
Rob: That's really cool. And that's a big thing in mindset as well is breaking through that ceiling of where you're at and being able to go to the next ceiling. From you're selling $10, $20 items and then going to that a hundred and it's like, whoa, whoa, what's the possibility?
I mean, I just sold something for $100. What is the possibility? How high can I really go with this? Which is really, really cool. It's breaking.
Joanna: I think it's important not to overthink it. Just do it because do it. And if something were to go minorly wrong and the shipping didn't turn out, then you just refine it and do it again.
You know, I see a lot of people that are like overthink it so much that they just don't start, start, start to figure it out. I mean, we listed first really big item. I was scared out of my mind. And then we just figured it out.
Melissa: How long did you take to finally ship a big item?
Joanna: I don't, so I shipped some big, like, I think you did a lot like FedEx, FedEx and UPS stuff. Like I think I bought the Otis Spunkmeyer cookie oven. Yeah. And then I shipped a really big, like a pretzel warmer, but it was. It was pretty significantly big. Glass was a little nerve wracking, but I've figured out how to be really careful and successfully do it. There was a pachinko game. It's that, it's like that pinball game from, I don't know.
Rob: Yeah. Weird, weird thing. Yeah.
Joanna: I had, I got one, I listed it. A guy said, Oh my God, I have to get this and ship it to my dad for his 60th birthday or something like that, because this was something that he played with his dad and I was so scared that I wasn't going to get it there, but I got there amazing right in time for his birthday.
So those were the first bigger things. So. Here's my thing. Take a step. Do it. You give yourself the confidence every time you do it, you know So even if you're scared just do it.
Rob: Yep.
Joanna: Absolutely do it because then you're like, why was I scared? I'm gonna do this, you know?
Rob: And what, what was your first, and I just thought about it.
What was your first, was your first freight shipment? Was it the Stressless chair? Was that what it was? Yeah, that's what I thought. Okay, cool.
Joanna: Well, and I won't go into details, but there were definitely some challenges with that. And you know what? I still couldn't wait to do it again. Do it again.
Rob: Yeah. Tell me, and you've told me this story before, so I'll let you explain it in your words, but I remember you telling me the story of when you actually were there watching them pick up the pallet and take it off the trailer and tell just in your own words, because I know this is pretty cool.
And it's exciting because you're not the only person who's felt this way. A lot of people have, but yeah, kind of explain your mindset in that, in that moment.
Joanna: It was right after Christmas. It sold and I remember wanting to just throw up like, oh God, can I just cancel the order? So no, we did it.
We palleted it up. We built the pallet. We went down to the, YRC, the freight yard at that point, and I remember this most amazing, magical feeling when the guy came with the pal, the pallet and picked it up or with the forklift, picked it up and he was driving away. And I took a picture of it driving away, or a video of it driving away, and it was the most amazing feeling, like all the way in the world off of your shoulders.
And we looked at each other and we're like, what were we so scared of? Let's do it again.
Rob: That's the truth. It really is. I mean, if you're really fearful until you actually do it, and then once you do it, a lot of people that have stepped up into that, it's like, why did I wait so long to do it? I, this is not as scary as I thought it was.
I can do this. And I remember, yeah, I remember you telling me that. So it's really, really empowering to hear that and know, that this is kind of the journey. If you feel this, this is the kind of the normal journey it is. It's the unknown until you actually do it. Thank you. And then once you do it, it's like, whoa, what, what just happened?
And why did I take so long to be able to make it? There was a lot of profit on that Ekorne chair, wasn't that over a thousand dollars, it was profit on that?
Joanna: $1,150
Rob: So that's insane for being able to do that. It's just really, really good.
Melissa: You started spotting those after one of our other members, right?
Post, after Derek started posting those.
Joanna: I did. And you know what? This guy did not know what he had. He was just emptying out a storage unit after his dad died. Oh. And, I did. Another member is an real expert on these chairs. He had posted it. And I caught an eye of it and I sent it to him and he said, I think it is real.
The guy wanted a hundred dollars. This thing was in mint condition.
Melissa: Yeah, they'll sell for so they sell for a lot.
Rob: One thing. I will. Oh, sorry.
Melissa: Go ahead I was just gonna say that but you found that because it's another member who posted them. That's what like that is the cool thing about our community because we just like everybody helps everybody they're so helpful and like he didn't have to do that, but he did like.
Rob: I remember who actually is really really knowledgeable knowledgeable on this is in Hawaii.
He sells these things in Hawaii over to the US from Hawaii. Absolutely. So, but I was going to point out the cool thing was it is you jumped on to the community group, the flipping for profit. And you started asking the expert who we thought, I mean, in our group, he definitely was the expert in this type of, no, it wasn't.
It was somebody else who had done these and had done repairs and done all kinds of stuff that you had access to in that community. And you're able to ask him questions just like, I mean, it's just amazing to be a part of that community. And it's also amazing. Like you're the expert in the community to a lot of people as well, that they're able to reach out to you and ask you the same stuff and knowing what you've taken from other people.
It's really, really cool that you.
Joanna: That's amazing. That, that right there is so amazing. It's just so amazing. Yeah. It's a lot of fun, amazing. But almost everything that I flipped for the first two years was something somebody else had flipped because I'm a watcher. I don't, I don't go buy the first brand new shoes or go to a restaurant that's a grand opening until somebody eats it. He's there, you know what I mean? Or, or tells me the shoes are good or like, I'm a watcher. So I watched, they have success and then I go find that. That's what I did for two years.
Melissa: When you were talking to about, you know, what, what you were waiting for to do that first bigger item. I remember when Stacy too was talking, she would have her stuff, she would pray her stuff wouldn't sell. Like she would like not wanting, she, she would say that she was so, she would get stuff listed. I'm so scared. But she's like, I don't want, I don't want anything to sell. I'm like, you can't have a business if you don't want it to sell.
But she literally had those thoughts and feelings. And now she, I mean, obviously we'll tackle anything huge, but,
Joanna: but it's just secretly, I had those things. I was doing those prayers. Please don't sell.
Melissa: And then you look at that to cha-ching of a thousand dollars or whatever, whatever that was. Well, how much was that when that sold overall?
Rob: The Ekorne chair?
Joanna: $1,250. Okay. Nice. Awesome. Yeah.
Melissa: So yeah, it was.
Joanna: Right after that, I mean, two weeks after that, I sold that Miele oven. Oh, okay.
Rob: Even more dollars. $2,200 Yeah. So your, your ceiling just keeps going up and up and up, which is really, really exciting.
Melissa: So that's, that's cool.
What might you tell somebody who's kind of on the fence and thinking about continuing this as a legit side hustle? Like that could be one concern. Like they don't know if they can do it or what, what would you just encourage somebody like if they're kind of on the fence about it?
Joanna: Investing in yourself is probably the best thing that you will ever do and that in a very short period of time, you won't even think about the money you're spending because you will have made it up and that you deserve success and the relief that I feel when I have an extra, you know, bill that comes up or something breaks or that I don't have to stress.
And that it is worth it, being around other people that are doing the same thing as empowering. And so you can literally change your life.
Rob: That's, yeah, that's so awesome. And how do you, how do you follow up that? That's, that's amazing. That's really, really cool. No, that's awesome.
Melissa: So, and I will add to when you're talking about like is success for me, I don't really like to talk about mindset stuff because. To me, some of it's a little bit, like, it just seems floofy and I'm like, I'm just going to power through. I can work hard and just go. But then I'm like, I do deal with some of those stuff too.
Like I, and I, I realized, realized it probably more now this year. And just, I don't know, going into, we've gone into some masterminds and some things. And it's like, I do kind of have this issue too, of like, is success for me? Like, like I, do we deserve it? You don't have any mindset issues. No, I'm just joking.
But like for me, and so he's constantly trying to tell me and like, cause I'm more of a, not pessimist. I'm more of a realist and he's more like very positive. So it's good to have him in my head.
Rob: We're definitely two opposites. She brings me down from where I'm at and I try to bring her up from where she's at.
Melissa: So it's a cool mixture working in the middle. So, but it is something, it's a, it's a real thing. So even if like you think mindset is kind of this. It's a real thing to think like, do I deserve the success? Cause you do. And why does other people deserve it over you? So I think that's pretty cool. I'm glad you said that.
Rob: No, absolutely.
Melissa: Thank you for spending time with us, Joanna. Get back to your anniversary celebration with your family and thanks for taking some time out of your vacation weekend to join us and help everybody.
