Rob: Alright guys, today we have the pleasure of speaking with Jenny, Flipper University alumni. And we want to ask her a couple of questions kind of to, see how she's really got great success in the business. And kind of see her story of how she was able to do that. So Jenny, thank you. First of all, thank you so much for jumping on here and spend a couple of minutes with us.
Thanks for having me.
Melissa: Awesome. So excited to talk to you today. So we just wanted to start off, by asking you, first, how did you find us?
Jenny: I found you just by searching online. My husband and I, had been reselling, very small time. It was a very small side hustle for probably about two years.
And we were kind of making some common mistakes that I think resellers make. And we were trying to learn from somebody who knew more. So, we had been following different people online, and we just didn't really find anything that, really resonated with us. We were learning, we were kind of growing our little side hustle, but we needed more help. And one day I... I came across the two of you and everything that you said in that first video that I watched, I was just blown away because you touched on all of the major points that we were failing on in our business. So, at that point I was just hooked. I watched all the information that I could find that you guys produced. I showed it to my husband, we tried implementing some things and then we eventually became members of the Flea Market Flippers.
Rob: I love it. I love it. So talk a little bit more about kind of the pre before you jumped into our world. You said you saw that video and it related to you. What were you guys... like were you using eBay?
Were you using marketplace? What platforms and how was your day to day? What was what did your business look more more like?
Jenny: Okay. So we had been using primarily Facebook marketplace, for probably 95 percent of our sales. And it was just small stuff. It was stuff that we had around the house.
And then my husband was going out sourcing during his lunch break, he would go to different thrift stores and he'd find vintage collectibles. And we were making, you know, two to three times, you know, purchase price. And so we were pretty thrilled with that. But the pitfall that we were experiencing is that, we were getting inundated with inventory.
We were, spending too much time. We were realizing that this was sort of like a numbers game in order to, kind of be successful at reselling, we had to like, kind of, you know, do the grind of getting, you know, 20 items posted a day, 30 items or something like that. And some personality types can do that well. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. And plus I, I, it was COVID. So I had three kids at home. And so I had very limited time. And so we were trying to figure out how to be more effective. How do we do this better? And we had just gotten onto eBay and probably sold a handful of items by the time we were introduced to the Flea Market Flippers.
I love it.
Melissa: That's awesome. So how have things been after you jumped into our flipping family?
Well, basically we learned that everything we knew before joining with the two of you was basically nothing.
So when we were thrilled with two to three times profit, you know, back in the day, now we're looking for 10 times profit, you know, we would go from, you know, maybe making $20 to $30 per item to making hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars per item. We are picking better items. We have gained confidence in both in types of items that we pick, in shipping, confidence when, when issues arrive, how to handle them perfectly, successfully get the outcomes that we want, how to communicate effectively with, with buyers, how to do. How does to go above and beyond and everything that we do. So everything has changed. We went from a very little side hustle that we were making.
I mean, in the beginning, we were probably thrilled to make $20,000 a year, to now it's an actual business, where we make, we work part time hours and we make full time income. So things have changed tremendously. And it's all because of the two of you and it's just incredible, the, the types of things that you two teach and it works. It really does.
Rob: I love it. Thank you so much. That is so exciting for us to hear. And I will say, I mean, you're giving us credit, but at the same time, you and Teal, you and your husband are taking action. You're action takers, and that's how you're getting results. So, we have a little bit here, but you guys ultimately are, you're, you guys are rock stars.
You're awesome. Because you're doing what needs to be done, and you're seeing those results. So that's so awesome. I'm so excited.
Melissa: I wanted to ask, did you have any hesitation before jumping into the program?
Jenny: Yes. Yeah, we did have hesitation. We had watched a lot of your videos, basically anything that you produced, we had watched probably several times.
We had done, at that time you had done like a our week training, which was like, I think a flip it for Christmas challenge or something like this. That was about three years ago. So we had done that and we knew that at the end of the challenge, yeah. You would be promoting the becoming part of the, Flipping For Profit University.
And we knew that came with the price. We weren't sure what the price was, but we were a bit hesitant. To be honest, we, we were very thrilled with everything that we saw, but we were always wondering, is there any more to learn? So the answer is yes, but that's what we kept on. That's what we kept on asking ourselves.
You know, we, we learned a ton by getting the free stuff and how much more would we learn by becoming a member? And the very last, the last, the last episode or whatever, the last training, for the Flipping For Christmas challenge, you had one of your, one of your success, successful students on the, on the program.
And it was, Stacy Gallego and we, and her story resonated with us, but not only that we got, we finished with, you know, the, the training for the evening, we talked to, my husband's parents and they knew Stacy personally from about 15 years ago. And they were like, Stacy, what wouldn't, you know, Stacy is the real deal.
If she didn't believe in this 110%, there is no way she would be promoting this. And that was basically what I needed to hear to commit a hundred percent to the cost of the program to getting in. And, and I'll have to say, you know, one thing that we've learned from watching the two of you is that you always promote, that you should.
I'm sorry. I'm kind of stumbling over my words here that you should, under promise and over deliver. And that is something that you do both in your eBay business and with the trainings that you offer. It is under promise over deliver, and I've been blown away at what I've learned from the two of you, what I've learned in the trainings, what I just continue to learn from from the group.
It has been an invaluable experience.
Rob: I love it. I love it. Thank you. Thank you so much. And yes, that is what our goal is too. Yeah. Everything we sell, we want to do that. And the same thing when we're helping and helping people grow their businesses, we're trying to do the same exact thing. So thank you.
Thank you for realizing that. Yeah, that's, that's really cool. So, we want to also ask you, who would you recommend this program for?
I would recommend it to anybody who is wanting to make some money on the side, whether part time or full time. Somebody who likes to find deals. It would be good for the type of person that already likes going to estate sales, flea market, thrift stores, and the like.
If you don't like doing that, it might not be the type of thing for you. But there are different ways to, to pursue this business. I like doing those things, but, my time is quite limited. So I do most of my sourcing on Facebook now. So if you don't like finding deals, whether it's on the apps or, or in person, at secondhand stores or whatever, then it's maybe not for you.
But, this is, an opportunity that a lot of people can make money at. You just have to basically figure out what the items are in your local market. And you have to figure out how to test them, clean them, market them, ship them, carefully and provide exceptional customer service.
You know, and it's, it's, it's a really, really fun business. I love it. I love it.
And I will second the treasure. I, I feel like it's treasure hunting. I love to go look for stuff no matter where it's at. If it's even on my phone, if it's on my phone searching through marketplace or offer upper Craigslist, that's what I feel like I'm wired to do is to find those amazing deals. And you're right, if you don't enjoy like the bargain hunt, if you don't enjoy, like I get some type of weird high, if I can find something for $20 and I know it's a five, you know, a $500, $1,000, $2,000 item that just makes me so happy. It's so much fun to be able to do that. So I definitely agree with that, for sure. Enjoy that a little bit. Absolutely. Absolutely.
Melissa: And what would you tell somebody who might be on the fence of jumping in?
Jenny: I would say that if you're on the fence, like if you enjoy reselling at all, and you want to, you want to make some decent money and limit your, your hours that. I don't know anyone else that does a better job of teaching people how to do that than the two of you.
So it's been, it's been a fantastic experience. If you don't know that if somebody doesn't know they like reselling, then it might not be for them. But if they are already know that this is something that they like and enjoy, then, there are no better people to learn from than the two of you.
Rob: Oh, I love it.
Thank you. Thank you so much. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, that was my last question. So, okay.
And I'll say as well. Like Jenny's being very modest as well. She went from making those small items where they're making two and three times some of these items that we're watching Jenny sell right now. Insane like $1,000, $500, $2,000 and you get them at a really good deal.
She's an amazing shopper. She finds some amazing deals. So she's being very modest on what she is doing in her business right now. But she she hit the the nail on the head by saying you can do this business, and part time hours and make a full time income. Melissa and I are proof of that. Jenny's proof of that.
And there's so many other people that do, do it as well. So, Jenny, you and Teal are amazing. You guys have done an amazing job. So thank you so much for spending some time with us. And yeah, just sharing a little bit more about your life and your business. It, it's super helpful and we thank you so much for that.
You're welcome.
We hope you enjoyed listening to Jenny's journey of going from some of the smaller items to some of the much bigger profits in her flipping business.
