Mastermind Recap With 10 Other Flipping Families!

Rob: What's up pro flippers? On today's episode, we are recapping a weekend that we just came off of spending it with 10 other flipping families.

Rob: Alright guys, so today we are talking about an amazing weekend that we just had with 10 other flipping families.

So much fun.

Melissa: This was our first ever mastermind event that we hosted. We've hosted a smaller one, kind of for our team more, but yeah, previously, years ago, but this was our first like real legit mastermind event. We had people come from our one-on-one coaching group and this was kind of the end of their coaching.

We or middle or held an event. And, yeah, it was, we just kinda wanna recap, like what went great, what went wrong, I guess nothing really went wrong, wrong, but we had like some, just some things that we, we worked through. So it was, it was a lot of fun though.

Rob: It was awesome. So first off, we'll tell you guys who this was for and who it was not for.

It was for people who actually did our, jumped into our one-on-one coaching, people who invested into their business jumped into a six month coaching program that we do at the end of the program and halfway through the program. So we try and do two of these a year. That's our goal is to do two of these a year.

We're doing a get together where we can all spend time together for a three day event, teaching, learning, and kind of just fellowshipping together, really getting to know each other better. So that was what the event was about. We did it down here in Orlando, Florida, and we actually rented a big

Melissa: 14 bedroom house.

Rob: 14 bedroom, 14 and a half bath house. Crazy. That was amazing. It was perfect for the event. We had so much fun, so yeah, that's what we ended up doing. The house had a bowling alley in the house. It had an arcade, it had a movie theater. It was set up so, so cool. And it was perfect for everybody 'cause it wasn't just the flippers either.

It wasn't people that are just flipping.

Melissa: We let them bring their families too.

Rob: Their spouse, their kids. We just had everybody. So it was more of a family. We had our family there, and we wanted everybody. We like family stuff, so we wanted everybody who wanted to bring their family to have the capabilities of doing that.

So that's how we did it. So, so much fun.

Melissa: Yeah, it was, it was really a blast. And I, I have to say, leading up to it, we were both a little nervous. Like, you don't know how it's gonna go. Is it gonna, is everybody gonna get along? And we've all been on Zoom together. Like we've all,

Rob: already got relationships.

Melissa: Like yeah, we've built some relationships, so, but like, how is everybody else? Like we've interacted with everybody and everybody has on Zoom to an extent with each other, but at the same time, it's different when you're on Zoom, you know, every other week or something, versus actually in person and hanging out for two and a half days.

So, so, but it was really, really cool. And I think, yeah, we were, we were nervous. Like is everybody gonna have fun? Are they gonna enjoy it or are yeah, I don't know. Like it was, it was cool though.

Rob: It was a little nerve-racking, but it was so cool because we have built relationships through the last couple months with everybody who was there.

They, we knew them on Zoom, we just didn't know them in person. And we got that time to spend intimately with each family. Yeah, each person. It was so much fun to be able to do that. Yeah. So we kicked off the event, we checked into the house on Friday, was it Friday afternoon?

Melissa: First we had, we wanted to get shirts and hats for everybody, and we are, we're rocking them right now.

We're not very much. We, we don't plan ahead very much. Like we'd like to get to where we have stuff planned ahead, months out, but it doesn't usually happen because we usually are just go, go, go, go, go, and ends up being last minute. Well, it came down to like the last week and I was like, how, I've been looking at different shirts and hats for a couple weeks and then I was afraid that the shipping was gonna not get here in time. And so it kept getting to be later and later. I'm like, now we're never gonna get them shipped to us. But we ended up finding somebody local and, and I actually, we went through a couple people local first and they're like, no, they're backed up. We can't do it, two weeks, three weeks, backed up two weeks.

We're like, ah. And then we finally found somebody on marketplace that said she could get it done in a rush delivery, and we got them done. We got them the day before we left for the house and we got them and had them ready for everybody when they arrived. So that was.

Rob: That's the first thing to jump into it.

The second thing actually we did, before we got to the house, I forgot, we actually went to Sam's Club. Oh yeah. And bought groceries for the whole weekend for, I do not like Sam's, for breakfast and for dinner. That's what we provided for everybody who came in the house. So for, I think it was 27 people.

Melissa: And luckily one of our coaches and her husband volunteered to cook 'cause you don't really want us cooking. No 'cause I mean, we could do it, but it's not not gonna be as good. No, we don't really love to cook. So luckily they cooked for everybody and yeah. I don't know how my grandma used to shop at Sam's all the time because it is, It's intense. It's a lot. I don't like it.

Rob: So we hit Sam's, we got our food, and then we checked into the house. Thank goodness our two coaches, Stacy and Joanna, met us there early. They helped us with setting up the house. So we had 14 bedrooms. We had to put hats, we had to put shirts, we had to put notebooks, all those in the bedrooms before everybody showed up at the house.

We had a blast doing that. Got it all set up, and then people started coming in on Friday afternoon, so we gotta start meeting people, start hanging out with people and the whole day, Friday, their whole evening, Friday meeting was just hanging out and really spending some time to get to know people better, closer.

Melissa: Yeah. And then Saturday we got up and took a field trip to our local flea market because what are you gonna do with a group of flippers then? You know, like, go to the flea market, of course. So, and we made it kind of fun. We made it a little contest. So, we put a little contest out there who can find the highest ROI item.

So highest percent ROI. And then also we added a highest value item. So numbers wise, like what is the highest profit item, value, and then the percent profit.

Rob: And that's what we did. So everybody walked around the flea market looking for some cool stuff, that they could actually show. And they're, they, most people flew in from other parts of the country, so they couldn't really buy stuff, but we didn't really care about the buying portion of it.

We wanted more people to try and see what they could find if they were there to buy it, how much they could get it for, and then how much the return on it would be. And like Melissa said.

Melissa: So you just kind of hypothetical numbers. Yeah. But they, they were close. So.

Rob: Yeah, like Melissa said, we did the person who had the highest dollar amount and then the highest.

Excuse me, the highest ROI is what we actually did. So we got to go to the flea market, hang out, find some cool stuff. We actually even bought some stuff. We didn't buy anything ourselves to flip. Yeah, we bought some more stuff for the kids. Yeah. That were there. So anyways, we had some fun doing that.

We got back to the house and then we did a recap where everybody sat down and we were able to talk about what was at the flea market, what everybody saw, the kind of the contest 'cause some people tooken up the contest on, you know, who did the highest. We put them all on the board and we actually talked it out and, and figured out who was gonna win this contest. So we came down to two people, which was Jane yeah and Jacque. And Jacque who won the contest.

Melissa: Do you remember the numbers? I was trying to look for the numbers, the percent.

Rob: I don't, I don't remember.

Melissa: Jane's was like a, ROI, a couple thousand dollars thousand ROI, item.

Rob: So yeah, I think Jane won the highest dollar amount.

Yeah. Which was like a $4,000 item.

Melissa: That she found for how much?

Rob: I think it was $300. Yeah, $300. And it was, yeah, roughly $4,000 on that one. And then Jacque found, what was it? It was the highest percent, percentage, ROI. I can't remember. It's like $25 to like $1,200 or, yeah, $2,000 somewhere.

Melissa: Do you remember what it was that she found?

Rob: I don't, I think it was some type of kitchen, commercial kitchen. It was a commercial, you're right. A commercial like appliance or something. Yeah. So that's what she found. So we, that's the kind of stuff we look for. We had two prizes for them. We actually gave them, what are they called?

Thermal prints. Thermal printers. Wireless thermal printers. That we are able to, yeah, you're able to hook it up to your, you don't have to hook it up. It's wireless so you can pull up the label on your phone, print it on the wireless printer. Doesn't take any ink. So really, really cool thing.

I gave that to both of them for winning that contest. Had a blast at doing that.

Melissa: You love to give away stuff.

Rob: I do, I do. So yeah, at this event we gave probably just under a thousand dollars worth of swag, not swag, prizes. So not even including, you know, the shirts that, because you gave away, the shirts, the t-shirts, and one of the other prices that we did.

We'll get to that in a second. Alright. But that's kinda how we did. We hit the flea market, we came back, we recapped it, after everybody, you know, rested. It was hot in Florida, everybody rested, cooled down.

Melissa: Actually it was overcast, which was nice 'cause it was not, we didn't sweat too much.

Rob: So, but yeah, so we came back, we talked about that. And then we gave away those two, two prizes and then,

Melissa: and then you did a shipping demonstration.

Rob: So we did, so we did one of our presentations. Go ahead.

Melissa: Yeah, no, I was just gonna say, you had something that just sold and so we thought, well, let's just go ahead and save this for the event and let's do a shipping demonstration 'cause it was kind of, it's not a huge pallet, but it's not a small item. It's, and it went in three different boxes. So it was pretty fun because you people got to see how you think through these like odd shaped boxes and odd shaped items. Not odd shaped boxes, but odd shaped items when you get it into a box.

But like one of the things you thought through in your mind, like you wanted to get this size box to fit it one way, but then it fit the other way even better. So it was pretty cool to see like how your mind works and then how it ends up. And then on the second box, like everybody was chiming in and saying how they would do it.

And so it was a lot of fun to see different ways that people do it and to know that it doesn't have to be just one way, there's more than one way to do things.

Rob: So absolutely, it was, and it was a group participation. So the second box, everybody kind of said, I told them what my process was. We tried to figure out if it was gonna be an easier process than what somebody else thought, and somebody else thought of a different process, how they would do it.

So we actually ended up doing it the way that they wanted to try it, and it worked out great. I think it actually worked out better than the original way less work than the original way that I was gonna do it. And it was a, I was, sorry, I didn't wanna cut you off. No, go ahead.

Melissa: No, I was gonna say it was a Thomas, the train set, so it was kind of a bigger, like, toy set.

So yeah, it goes in a big, and with a whole bunch of tracks.

Rob: Three different, three different boxes is what it it took to ship it.

Melissa: So how much did that sell for? $400, $450, $450 plus a hundred dollars for shipping. So, and you got it I think probably for like $20. $20 several years ago.

Rob: Yeah. And our kids used it multiple times for, a long time.

So, but that was the demonstration that we did. We had so much fun doing that. Had a great time, ate dinner that night and then woke up the next morning and jumped into two other presentations.

Melissa: Yeah, we had our coaches, do some presentations. We had some mindset and some personality tests, so like we kind of wanted to talk about that and ways to get motivated, when you're a certain personality.

So, and yeah, different ways of that. Yeah. I don't know if you wanted to add to that.

Rob: No, I think that was it. They, they did a great job. Both of our coaches, jumped in and did some trainings. Yeah, and it was awesome. Everybody got a lot out of it. We had such a fun time doing that. And then we did one more contest at the end of the day on Saturday night, which was everybody had an hour and a half to jump onto their apps and see who could find the most profitable item, sourcing off the apps.

So they had an hour and a half to go off onto their, their separate ways, go into the room, go out to the pool, whatever they wanted to do, and they did it. And then we came back in an hour and a half and we checked what everybody had. And we had a lot of fun doing that. And we came out with two more winners.

Melissa: I know 'cause one, yeah, they were close too. And do you remember what their, they were both over a thousand dollars profit? Absolutely. A lot. One was $2,000, right? Yeah. I can't remember. I thought I took a picture of it, but.

Rob: Yeah. I don't remember right now either. But and we had special criteria of what, you know, how we could negotiate with the person.

Since we weren't really buying the item, but we were negotiating with them. Actually, some of actually were things that they, they had negotiated already. You're right. You're right. So in their area, and then they came back and we. They had messages while they were down this weekend. Yeah. That they would take the the offer and they were gonna go buy them when they got back.

So you're right. So those were our last two prizes and we were only going to give one away. But then I felt bad because we had two people that, one of them was, I think the highest price.

Melissa: No, she had already won a prize. Oh. So we were like, oh, does she qualify? But we just said, yeah, she can have both. So, yeah.

Rob: So, and the second prizes were these bad boys right here that were so much fun?

Melissa: Yeah. Jennifer and Jacque got them.

Rob: We got nail guns, DeWalt nail guns. So, yeah, we got two of those and I, I told them that I only brought one, but I would buy another one and ship it out to them. They came, they both flew, so we have to ship them, which is cool.

That's why I still have them. But that was so much fun to be able to do that. At the beginning of our coaching, I send, I had sent everybody DeWalt stuff. So DeWalt 'cause that's your favorite, right? I love doing it, I love giving people stuff and this is the exact stuff that I use. So I know it works.

I know it works well for our business, what we're doing. These are the exact tools. So I sent everybody a nice little toolkit, DeWalt saw DeWalt nail gun, I mean DeWalt drills, bit sets, all that kind of stuff. I try and do that in the beginning of the coaching. This just fits right in with it because I use a nail gun.

They're a little bit more expensive. But that's one of those things that I wanted to be able to give away to some people at this mastermind. So we were able to do that, wrap off the day or wrap up the day on Saturday with that contest and then grab dinner with everybody and just fellowship and have a great time with everybody for Saturday night.

Melissa: Yeah. So it was definitely, sorry, that was Sunday night. Sunday night. Yep. And then we left Monday and it was definitely it, it was, it took a lot. Like afterwards we're like, wow, like I'm tired. It was a lot, but it was so energizing at the same time. Yes. Like it just to be around people who are doing the same thing.

Oh, and I wanted to add too, some the times at night, you know, you're just kind of hanging out or during the day Rob threw his phone on the big screen and is like sourcing and like, like, this is so much fun. This is what we're doing in the evening. Just sitting around sourcing items on marketplace on the big screen and instead of watching a movie.

So it was pretty funny. Yeah to to see that, but it was.

Rob: So definitely one of the big takeaways is surround yourself with people even out of this whole podcast that you guys are listening to, or this video, surround yourself with like-minded people. Now, this was a big investment for people actually to go through the course, to go through the coaching with us, but also to get down to Orlando.

Nobody was local for us. They're all over the country. They flew from all different states to get down, or some of them drove. But it was a big sacrifice to be able to do that. Because they knew what was involved and what the reward was. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people who are trying to grow, just like you're trying to grow it, is a huge, huge thing.

Something that Melissa and I have supported for years in our own business, in our own, development, for coaching, for flipping, all that kind of stuff. We're always trying to invest and really get around those like-minded people who can help us grow our businesses.

Melissa: Yeah, and I would add too, like you can definitely do this on a small scale.

If you don't have people around you, that support you, there's people online, you can find like-minded people, you know, Facebook groups. There's all kinds of things that you can find, but if you can make the sacrifice to get to a live event, like meeting people in person is just, I don't know, like, it, it can, it's so cool to be around people who have the same goals as you, has the same, you know, it's just, I don't know.

It's energizing. It is, and there's just nothing that really beats live events and doing things in person. So, they're definitely our favorite. We love to go to conferences and, and there's conferences and events for anything that you're interested in, growing your business, growing, you're flipping, growing, you know, there's just so much.

So if you can, and it is a sacrifice, 'cause usually you have to get a ticket to the event or a plane ticket and a hotel or maybe babysitters, get off time of work. It's a lot of work. But it's, it, it always, it's always pays off. I would say for us, don't absolute you think? Absolutely, 'cause we used to go to like, there's two main conferences we go to now.

And every time it's just, it always pays off. So, but it is a sacrifice. It's not, you know, easy to get somebody to watch the kids to get, you know, book the hotel. It's not easy. No. But anyways, we had a blast and so we just wanna kind of do something a little different on the podcast today and just kind of recap. Yeah. Our weekend. Did you have anything else add?

Rob: No. It was so much fun. We had such a great time. Looking forward to our next one in February. It's gonna be so much fun again to be able to do that, to be able to talk and interact with people live, be able to do trainings. It's, we just absolutely love.

We're, we're advocates of the live events. We're so like right after here coming up in the next three weeks, we're going to a huge live event that's gonna be over 5,000 people. Maybe one day we'll get there, I don't know about that. For the software company that we use, we go to that event. It's very uplifting.

It's around other people who are growing their businesses, who are really trying to succeed. And that's the people that we surround ourself with as well. We're trying to constantly grow in our businesses and get better at what we do. So, we're not just saying this, we're actually living this out with, that's everything in our business that we do, guys.

We don't just tell people how to flip. We don't just give people advice on how to do stuff. We're doing exactly everything that we're teaching and we're showing people how to do it. We're living it out the same way because that's what we believe is that's how you stay sharp. That's how you stay good at what you're doing and that's how you, you lead people, you help people grow with what you know and what you are constantly sharpening your skillset and doing. So.

Melissa: You got two things you got to go ship out today, right?

Rob: I do actually, once we get off here, make some more videos and get some stuff shipped out. So that's, why we love this business.

Melissa: So thank you guys so much for listening. We appreciate you so much and we hope you have an awesome rest of your day.

Rob: You guys rock. We will see you on the next episode.
