Reseller Hangout Podcats – Thankful For Our Flipping Journey
Melissa: Happy post Thanksgiving, guys. We're so excited to talk to you today real quick. We just wanted to talk to you about how grateful we are for all of you and so much for our flipping business.
Rob: All right guys, we are excited to come to you the day after Thanksgiving.
We are so thankful for so much, definitely for you guys, but we have so much to be thankful for.
Melissa: And one fun thing is, fun thing that was a bad thing that turned into something we're thankful for. So we're actually thankful that your job cut benefits when it did, because if it did not, if they, if you continued on, would we have jumped into reselling full time?
I'm not sure that we would have.
Rob: No, probably not.
Melissa: We needed that push to do that, and we are so grateful that we're able to do this and it's something that you're super passionate about and I love the back end of all this stuff, like the tech stuff that I get to do. And it's just so much fun. So, but that was, that was six years ago.
Brody's 6.
Rob: It was seven years.
Melissa: Right when he was born. Yeah. He, your job was saying, no more benefits. So we're like, okay, well we've been doing this part-time, we're making, at that time it was like $42,000. Yeah a year side money at like 10 to 15 hours a week. Yep. So then what do we do if we're both doing it now? What can we do?
Like, can we make more and provide for our family of five? So, and luckily it worked out. Yeah. So, cause we didn't have a whole big pile of savings saved up. Whenever that happens, we're like, okay, this better work.
Rob: So we absolutely did not, but it's been amazing guys, and the people that we have been able to help, over a thousand people, that have jumped into Flipper University, people that we've got to know just even through social media doing this, trying to make this a side hustle or a full-time gig. I mean, it's just been amazing. It's been so awesome to see how many people we have been able to help through our journey.
And knowing that we would not have been on this journey had we not had the misfortune of, losing our benefits and then getting out of our job. And then, yeah, just one thing led to another. So yeah. So excited. Yeah.
Melissa: And I also wanna say, I, I'm thank, I don't know if it's thankful, so we quit the whole sharing what we do online for six months after we started, because we, we were like, okay, a smart, our friend who was, who was sharing stuff, she's like, you guys should share.
That's so cool. You guys go to flea market and you sell stuff. You should, you know, write a blog. So blogging was a little bit bigger, I think back in seven years ago. It was bigger than like all the social media stuff now. So we're like, okay, we're gonna start a blog. We're gonna help people do their reselling gig.
And we did it for about six months and then, nobody was coming to our blog and nobody was like, it was like, okay, well if nobody wants, what are we doing to read our stuff? And then I go back and I read what we had on there, and I'm like, what in the world? We watched some of our videos from 7, 6, 7 years ago and we're like, wow, that was not very good.
No wonder nobody, I'm glad nobody was watching that and nobody was reading. So I'm thankful that we decided, for some reason, we both decided. Like it was six months I think. Yeah. I think we'd done it for five months and then we quit and then we, for about six months, we didn't touch it and then we're like, okay, maybe we both kind of felt a stirring that we should come back to it.
So, and we both had that feeling so we're like, well, I guess let's try and see what, what we can do. And it's been a lot, It's been so much fun. It has. And who we are today. I think that one of the biggest things that we weren't expecting, is how much we really love seeing the success of other people. I think, you know, we started this, everybody was trying to make extra money as a side hustle.
You know, if you're on YouTube, you're making ad revenue and the blog, it was like affiliates and making ad revenue once you can get in with these different ad networks. And so it's like, it's just an extra income and that's kind of why you start it and then you realize. Wow. Like you're actually impacting people.
People are making legit money for their families. Like we've had some of our, our course members like quit their jobs and go do this full time and we're like, that was not expected. Yeah. We could barely think that we could go full time.
Rob: So, and we know some of our course members making $40, $50, $60, $70,000 a year, which is insane that we've had a hand in helping them, you know, get the courage and, and go out and start doing this stuff.
So, it's been amazing. We are so thankful for you guys even just listening to this podcast. We're so thankful for our members. We're just very, very thankful in this season of everything that the God that our God has given us. It's been amazing for sure.
Melissa: Yeah, and I mean, this time of year does make you think about it a lot.
And I would say one thing too, thankful that we don't have to ask for anybody to have time off, that for you, because you do not do well with a, not that you don't have a boss. I was one that at my job, I never took a day off hardly until I met this guy and then he. It was like, you have sick days, you can take days off or you have paid days off, you can take them off.
And so I never took a day off. I was definitely like work all the time kind of person. And then, after we were dating for a while, then married you, you would plan these trips and I have two weeks off and I'm like, I can't take two weeks off. And then, I would end up asking my boss and we'd get two weeks off, but now we don't have to do that.
Now we can just plan stuff.
Rob: No. It is nice. It is nice to have our control of being able to do stuff with our kids, do stuff as a family on our own timeframe and be able to do that. So we are thankful, so thankful that we have the freedom, the ability to do that, that we do not have to answer to a boss for sure.
Melissa: Yeah. So that's definitely the flexibility. Yeah. Also, I think when the kids were littler, we had, we had it in our, not, there's nothing wrong at all with kids in daycare, but we really want, didn't wanna do that with our kids. And we knew that we had the opportunity to not do that. And so we wanted to be home with our kids.
And so this is something that they've grown up with. They have been going to the flea market with us since they were babies on our, like, strapped to our chest in our backpacks. We had the strollers, we had, like, they've been going the flea market at thrift stores. They were young when we went on the 1 27 yard sale the first time.
And yeah, so they, they're, this is how they've grown up. I, I have a picture of the little girls playing in all the peanuts and the bubbles, thinking it's like a ball pit for them. So this is just, they've known, they've just known this business and so it's fun that it's something that we can do as a family.
And now they're starting to, learn it. So.
Rob: Absolutely.
Melissa: So yeah.
Rob: So guys, we are so thankful for you the day after Thanksgiving. We are so thankful for this job that we are able to do. Greatly appreciate you guys listening to the podcast. Hopefully you are learning a lot from the podcast, from our experiences.
