This One Thing Can Help You Grow Your Flipping Business

Rob: What's up, pro flippers? On today's episode we're talking about the one thing if you do it will help grow your business. All right, so what is this one thing that if you do it will help grow your business?

Melissa: So we went out on the boat this last week for 4th of July weekend. We were out there actually four days in a row at his sister's place and we had a blast with the kids. Now the kids have been going on the boat for years now, and they don't always go out surfing.

So I'm going to tie this all in, but while I was on the boat, I had this thought that really applies a lot to business or really anything you do. So anyways, I wanted to share it because I thought it could be helpful and a little bit of encouragement to you. So, we had the three kids, for some reason, I guess it was the fourth day, it was the last day, they were all interested in trying to surf.

And they had, they don't always, sometimes, like, we have a lot of people in the boat, usually, and we didn't have a lot of people in the boat, so that might have been one reason, but they wanted to try and get on the board. And all three of them did it, and they all tried, and two of them ended up getting up and surfing, and one of them even threw the rope, which was really cool. And one of them wasn't able to get up. But when I was thinking about this, I was thinking, the one who wasn't able to get up was actually our most athletic, most flexible, most coordinated, and the has the best balance. So if I had to tell you which kid would be catch on the quickest, it would be her. Like she would be the one to get it. But the other two were the ones that were able to get up and I was like, why was that?

Well, it was because she did it one time. She got up to her knees and she was doing great and then she fell and then she stopped.

Rob: She gave up.

Melissa: She gave up. And then the other two fell multiple, multiple. How many runs did they do?

Rob: Quite a few.

Melissa: I mean, a lot. Brody did a lot before he got up. Like, they did a lot of runs before they were able to like, he only got to his feet one time at the end.

He did it. But then he did it. He did it one time. Roxy did it a couple times. But they did it because they did it over and over and over and over again. And that was the thing, like, they might not have had the, as many skills going into it as, as the other one, but they were able to, to make the goal happen because they were persistent and they kept trying and they kept trying again. And I think that's something that we think about like, oh this person they have more skills than me.

They are gonna they can do that or they, you know, no, it's usually the people that are are making things happen is not because they're better at that thing. It's because they've done it. They actually take action and that is the biggest thing. It's repetition, taking action.

Rob: If you think about anything, I mean, you could give up.

A lot of people will run into an obstacle or run into a, a dead end and they'll give up versus just keeping going and going and going over and over and over so you get better. Because every time you do make a mistake you learn from that mistake and guess what, you're probably not gonna make that same mistake again. So count that one off and keep going with it. That's the same thing for our kids the kids that got up and surfed.

They made a mistake. They figured out what it was. For Roxy, I'm thinking about her, she would get her foot on the outside of the board and go to stand up and then she'd start wobbling like this. And it would it would throw her off the board when she's then she's like, all right, well, I know I can't keep my foot on the outside of the board I got to move it closer to the center of the board and we were coaching her through the way the whole time.

Coaching her through the process and then slowly but surely she did it again and she got her foot in the middle of the board and then she stood all the way up. So it's one of those things that

Melissa: And then she threw the rope.

Rob: She did. It's one of those things that you have to be willing to continue to do it no matter what the outcome. If you know it's possible to do, which in this business and any business that you're in, typically there's people that are further along than you are.

You know that it's possible. You just have to do it. You have to keep doing it over and over and over. Make those mistakes, get better and better at it so you can get to where you want to be in the business.

Melissa: Yeah, because I know sometimes people, like maybe they got a return or maybe they had a shipping claim or maybe they had something happen and those things will happen in business and maybe it was a big one and it really deterred you.

You had that one when you started out that was a really big return, but you made a mistake and you over promised on the item and said it was in mint condition and it wasn't. I mean, you were what 20, like when you did that, it was young and so, and, but you learn from that. It was a big mistake, but you said it almost stopped you from selling on eBay and you know, but you didn't.

And then you kept going and then you kept learning from their mistakes and you just refine your, refine it, refine it. And you get better and better and then you can go quicker too. So, I just thought it was interesting. I don't know what that popped in my head. That was a kind of a interesting analogy when I was thinking about them. And I know that Lexi's gonna go out and crush it pretty soon. She's gonna go back, but she does tend to have that personality that like if it once it's hard, I'm done. Like it's hard and I'm done. So we'll have to work through that a little bit

Rob: Yeah, just so you know about our kids, so we surf all the time behind the boat and Lexi is the one who will stand up on my shoulders and surf. The other ones won't do it.

She'll stand up on my shoulders and surf.

Melissa: She's comfortable out there but.

Rob: Why we're doing it and she was the first one who I know she'll when she gets it, she'll crush it. But at the same time she was the first one who, went out there, she gave up and she just was done with it. And if she would have kept doing it a couple of more times, she would have really, really crushed it.

So it's one of those things that you can't give up what, no matter what you're doing, you have to keep doing it better. You'll get better and better and better. And those mistakes that you learn from, they're going to make you so much better in the long run once you keep at it.

Melissa: Yeah, just think of how many times the, like, so maybe like another mistake.

I'm just thinking of some of the mistakes that people make. Like you sent, you put the wrong label on, you switch labels. Like you're going to take an extra second to look at the labels next time and make sure you're shipping out the right item because now you have two customers, you have to give them the right item or give them a return or whatever you have to do, but that's happened. You've done that before. Absolutely. And then, you know, or you didn't get shipping insurance on an item that you definitely should have gotten shipping insurance. Like those things you learn over time and you don't make those mistakes again and then you can grow.

So hopefully that was a little bit helpful, a little motivation, a little different than, like we like to throw some mindset stuff and encouragement in there. So hopefully that helps you to know that just take action. It's okay if you fall down, you can get back up and that's how you're going to get better at anything really.

Rob: That's it. You guys are awesome. Have an amazing day and we'll see you on the next episode.
