What We Sold Last Month To Make Almost $10K
Rob: What's up, Pro Flippers? On today's episode, we are talking about last month's numbers. We got them in and almost $10,000 in sales.
Melissa: We're gonna dive into all the numbers, what we sold, cost of goods, cost of shipping, and eBay fees, and all the things, and of course, the profits, because that is what we're looking for.
Rob: All right, guys, we are stoked for last month's numbers. They are looking good. So let's break them down. We want to break down what we sold, how much we made on each item, and the most important part profit. What was the profit on each item? So how many sales total last month?
Melissa: One, two, three, four, five, six sales.
Rob: Six sales out of last month and killer almost $10,000 in sales. But even more important, how much is the profit on those six items? So
Melissa: yeah, so we're going to dive into each one. Now this is last month of November. We're a little late getting this one out, you know, obviously holidays, everything gets busy.
But we got our totals and then we'll, we'll have December's out pretty soon too, because it's been a pretty good month.
Rob: So last two months have been great in the flipping arena.
Melissa: In the flipping business for sure. So, so November totals, you want to dive right in? All right. So we have the first one is the cooktop.
Rob: Cooktop! This was a JennAir cooktop. Picked it up on a roadtrip that we did. This last summer. Last summer.
Melissa: Yeah, this past summer.
Rob: This past summer. Took a little while to get listed, but once we listed it, sold in like 2 or 3 weeks. Paid $65 for it, sold it for $1,500. Woohoo! Killer sale that was sale number one.
Melissa: And the fun part about that one I remember exactly where we were when we stopped and when we go on the road like people are like oh, you drove so far to get it. We look for things right on our path and this guy was like 10 minutes off the interstate, right?
Like 10 he was he's not far. And we just picked it up on our way It's probably an extra 30 45 minutes out of our time to go pick it up and it was totally worth it because obviously it helps pay for our trip and whatever. But it was really cool cause the guy said he was about to go, he was a scrapper and he was about to scrap it the next day.
If you, if we weren't going to show up, he's like, if you weren't going to show up and he didn't know you would, he's like, I was going to scrap it the next day. So we got to re what recycle it and get it back into somebody can use it now and got paid for our time. So.
Rob: Absolutely killer deal. And I remember this as well.
We were on our way to Niagara Falls and I found this, the night before, connected with the guy made the, the arrangements for the pickup and we did it. It all worked out. Perfect. Like Melissa said we just swung in about 10 minutes out of our way off the interstate picked it up. Got it. And then once we got it listed, sold fairly quick So we love those quick sales and I love the profit on this bad boy.
Are we gonna break them down individually? So this one we sold for $1,500. We had $65 invested into the item. Yep And how much did we have in eBay fees? eBay fees were $198, almost $200 in eBay fees. And then shipping. Shipping cost, $98. A hundred dollars in shipping total profit. Did, did you do that one?
Melissa: Yep. Total profit, $1,139.
Rob: $1,139. Almost $1,150 in profit. I love it for the time spent in this. This was a beautiful cooktop. Did not take very much time at all to get this thing cleaned up, pictures listed and the shipping process was actually pretty fun. Not a big ordeal either. So maybe three hours invested into this whole process to make over a thousand dollars.
I love it. I love those types of flips. Let's jump on to number two. Yep.
Melissa: All right. Number two was the glass cooktop Whirlpool.
Rob: Glass cooktop. I remember this one. So a buddy actually gave me this. It had a small little chip in one of the corners. I actually sanded down the chip so you couldn't even see it.
Not a big deal. It still worked perfectly. Nothing wrong with it. So I got it for free. Spent maybe 20, 30 minutes sanding off the edge of the glass to make it nice and, where it wasn't sharp or anything like that. And it didn't even look that bad. It looked really good. Took pictures and noted it in my description.
And then, yeah, we sold this one for $600, $600. $599.99. So $600 got had no money invested into it. So killer deal. $600 for nothing invested. What were our fees on this one?
Melissa: eBay fees were $79 shipped, shipping costs were $75, which brings our profit to $446.
Rob: $446 for this one. And this one was a lot easier to ship too because it was a glass cooktop.
So, I enjoy that as well.
Melissa: And sometimes people will comment, well, if the person gave it to you like, and you sold it, what if they see your video that you did of you selling it and like, but that was the whole reason they gave it to us was because they know that we sell on eBay and they gave it to us to resell.
So, that was the whole point of why they gave it to us because they didn't want to mess with it. And they totally could have done the same thing, but they didn't want to mess with it. And sometimes, I know we've talked about this before, but if friends give us stuff, sometimes we'll give them a gift card or a kickback of something just to be nice.
But you, you don't have to do that, but we try to do that sometimes when we can. But yeah, they gave it to us to resell, so no if they see any of our videos that we post, they will not be upset about it. They'll be glad that they got rid of it and we got rid of it.
Rob: So that's it. Awesome. Number three, the third item.
Melissa: The, how do you pronounce that?
The metal box.
Rob: What's that? So it was a metal, either, a metal box that you put into the wall for some type of access, whether you're using it for plumbing or something like that, but it was an, insert into a wall. So you cut out drywall, put it in the box and it had an open door that you could lock to put stuff in.
So I don't even know really what the use of it is for other than you can run stuff inside of it, lock it up for control of it. We got a whole bunch of these things for free. They've sold throughout, I've had them listed for a couple of years and I sell a couple a year. I still think I have another three of them left.
But I just sell them. I got them for free. Nothing invested into them. And, what do we sell for? $120. $120 dollars, yeah. So, killer deal. Not huge, huge expensive and not really big to ship either and it already had a box on it. So not real big deal, but we like I said, didn't want to throw these away got them for free and made a little bit of money on them. So what was our total eBay fees and shipping
Melissa: eBay fees were $22.
Okay. And shipping no, sorry shipping cost was $22. eBay fees were $16. Cool $16 and $22. Total profit because nothing invested was $82.
Rob: $82 not spectacular like our other ones but still Stuff that's sitting in the shop that I just have listed when it sells, it sells make a little extra money on it.
That's a tank of gas for us. So I will not turn away $80 in profit who will hopefully nobody. So awesome. Let's jump on to number four.
Melissa: All right. The next three were all on marketplace.
Rob: So no eBay fees and no shipping fees on these bad boys.
Melissa: So that was very nice. So the first one's a concrete mixer.
Rob: Concrete mixer.
Got this. Man, I had this for a while and then we ended up once I finally listed it. You had so many people interested. It did tons and tons of people wanted it. It was a commercial concrete mixer on a trailer. It had a Honda motor on the back of it. A big thing that spun around and mix the concrete up.
I think it held like 20 bags of concrete to mix them up. So it was a commercial one. Yeah, paid $500 for it and we sold it for $3,250. We did not sell it on eBay, so we sold it locally. Love those kind of deals. Made some good cash on them. This one I sat on for a little while just because I couldn't decide if I really wanted to sell it, if I wanted to keep it and use it for some, some projects that I have around the shop and around the house.
And then finally I was like, alright, let's do it. It was a big machine. It was on, like I said, a small trailer and I was like, alright, let's sell this sucker. So, paid $500, sold it for $3,250. No fees incurred on this bad boy. So it was all profit after that. Total profit was at $2,750. $2,750. I love that.
No, didn't have to do anything to this one. Actually, I did. I take that back. The carburetor. So when I got it, the carburetor on the Honda motor, just a little like a 7 or 10 horsepower Honda motor. It had been sitting for a while, so it had some bad gas in it. I took the carburetor apart, cleaned it out, took me, you know, 30, 45 minutes.
That was all that I did to it. Put it back together, cranked up, ran perfect, no issues. Didn't have to buy anything else, didn't have to do anything else to it. Killer deal on this as well to make over three grand in profit. Love it!
Melissa: All right, now the lift.
Rob: Number five! The lift! So this was a man lift.
Actually, I think they call them scissor lifts. I bought this a while back. Did a little bit of work to this one because I got it when I remember I got it. What do we do? Is the batteries in it or the
Melissa: there was the batteries, so, so you paid $200 or $250 and then the batteries were the rest of it.
So the total, total investment in it was $510.
Rob: $510 after, oh, that's including the item? Yes. That's including the batteries. Okay, cool. The item and the batteries. Yes. Sweet. Okay. So that was the total that we invested in this. I used this thing for probably a couple years. I used it in my shop. I used it at the house.
I have videos with the kids that we, we had good time with it, so I had a, I got a lot of use out of this, but I also have another one that I'm keeping myself. That I decided to sell this one finally. We put it on, sold it fairly quickly for 30, same price, $3,250 on it. And for you guys that are wondering, I listed both of these at $3,500, but I knew there was play for negotiation.
So I came down to $3,250 on them and sold this one for $3,250, which total profit, same thing. Roughly $2,740 no eBay fees, no shipping fees. This one sold on Marketplace. Beautiful, we love it. Where'd you get it? Do you remember where you got it? My contact. Yeah, so my scrapyard contact, my scrapper.
That you met at the flea market. Yep, got it, got it from him. Talk to people. From the flea market, that's it. Get to know people. And he knows what we do and he sells me these and I love buying these type of items. So like I said, we got years and years out of this. still made really really good money on it as well.
So, number six!
Melissa: Last one, the wheelchair.
Rob: Wheelchair, got this from my same contact. This is another, the scrapyard contact that we met at the flea market. He bought it from him for $100 and then we sold this one locally as well for $1,000. Didn't do anything to it other than I probably spent about an hour to be honest with you guys.
It was, had like dust and stuff all over this wheelchair, electric wheelchair, had dust and stuff all over it. I spent some time spraying it down, cleaning it up, making it look nice for pictures, and then that's all I did, met the guy, we, yeah, I actually delivered this one. So, this one was about 20 minutes from our house that I met the guy and delivered it to him.
I offered to do it on a wheelchair, I didn't know if it was an older guy who, I don't want to make him travel around and I didn't know if he had the means to carry it as well. So when somebody's local like that, I try and do as much as I can to make it, an easy sale for them. So paid a hundred bucks for it, sold it for a thousand dollars.
No money invested into this, just a little bit of time and no eBay fees and no shipping on this. So another killer, killer flip. I love those types of flips. So grand totals.
Melissa: That brings our total to of sales to $9,720.
Rob: $9,720 in total sales for the month.
Melissa: Cost of items was $1,175.
Rob: Had of over a thousand dollars in just buying the items.
And then how much are we on shipping and fees?
Melissa: eBay fees were $293. Okay, almost $300. Shipping cost was $195. $195, which means our profit at $8,057.
Rob: Just over $8,000 in profit for the month. I love it. I love those types of profits, those types of months. Those are amazing. We love those type of months.
Melissa: I wanted to add one thing real quick. You know, when you're seeing these higher numbers, especially like the last ones that were $3,000 or $1,000. And, you know, sometimes we get a question like, well, how can you sell them for that much money? Like you're getting them for nothing. How can you sell them for that much money?
It's because of the value of the item, like the value we're not selling it for 10 times the retail cost. Like we're not, we're selling it for half, about half of the value. And even I think the concrete mixer, what does that sell for?
Rob: It's still over $6,000.
Melissa: Yeah. So like some of them are, are, they're priced right. So that's why somebody will buy them at that price because they know they're getting a great deal.
So even though we are selling higher, higher value items, they're still at a great deal for the buyer. So.
Rob: And I probably could make even more money on both the two that I sold, the lift and the, the concrete mixer, both of those I could have definitely sold on eBay. And I did have them cross posted as well, but they sold in locally, which I'm okay with it because I don't have my eBay fees and I don't have the shipping so I can offer them for less locally, when I do list them on marketplace as well.
And I'm okay with that. It's just a little bit less work, less time when I don't have to ship them out. And when we can do that locally versus on eBay, I'm okay with that as well. So, killer, killer deal. Love it. Love those types of months. And December, we are wrapping up those numbers as well.
And it was a killer month as well. Super excited for those numbers to come out on one of the next episodes.
Melissa: Yep. We are excited to end this year with you soon and we can't wait to kick off 2024. So thanks for hanging out with us.
Rob: You guys rock. Have an amazing day and we cannot wait to see you on the next episode.
