Reseller Hangout Podcast - Rob & Melissa: When is the right time to invest in yourself?

Rob: What's up, guys! On today's episode, we are talking about is investing in yourself really worth it? So, stay tuned!

Melissa: All right. So on today's episode, we're going to dive into a comment we got the other day, and this is really

Rob: it's not the first time.

Melissa: No, it's not, and it's pretty cool to kind of get some feedback from people and be able to elaborate on that feedback in a podcast.

So I'm really glad that we do this now. So the comment was stating that they don't have money for learning. So anybody who's maybe new to us, we have a lot of free content out there, but we also have some paid courses as well. So we have workshops, we have a couple of courses and they were referring to one of our workshops that we're about to kick off next week.

So, so yeah, so they were referring to that. And so we wanted to kind of talk about that, is it worth it to invest in yourself and what if you don't have money to do that?

Rob: Yeah. And there's really two types of people here. People that really do not have a penny to invest into something else, they're barely staying afloat with what they have.

And then it's the person who maybe has money to go do what they want to do, but don't see the benefit of investing in a workshop, a course, or something like that that can expedite their growth. So the first person that does not have an extra penny, the cool thing about it is there is so much free information out there.

Melissa: You really don't need any. You can go get it.

Rob: I mean, like in our field and our, what we do flipping, I can't tell you how many, and I'll tell you guys right here. If you don't have a penny to invest, you can go out right now today, you can go out to date wherever you're at, or tomorrow or the next day and go through your neighborhood, somebody else's neighborhood by you, in your city somewhere, there probably will be a trash day of pickup trash. There are people that throw away hundreds of thousands of dollars, worth of a good stuff every single day. So you can go out and find those free items. Pick them up, take them back to your house. Take one picture of that. Whether it's a baby stroller, whether it's a speaker, whatever it is, you can take one picture of it, throw it on Facebook Marketplace.

And by the end of the day today, you probably can create $20, $30, $40, $50 worth of income from doing that one act. And that's a free way to go out and find money. Today, you can do that today. And we give that type of information and almost every field out there gives some type of information that you can use and you can get results for, within a day, a week or something like that, that you can actually go and make money, it's possible.

Melissa: Yeah. So for whatever area you're interested in, like obviously we love flipping that's our gig and you can do it for starting with nothing. But in anything that you want to learn, there are podcasts. There is YouTube, there are blog posts there is everything that you could find to go figure out how to do what you want to do, and you can do it.

Absolutely. 100%. Every piece of information is out there that you need. You might have to sift through a little bit, and some people are going to be give you more information that you need and you might follow them more. Some people, you know, maybe not, but it's there. So you just have to be proactive and go do it.

So now.

Rob: That being said through who are courses, workshops, who are these paid events or paid memberships who are these for? Let's dig into that a little bit because like Melissa said, we have that stuff. Not for everybody, but it is for some people. So who is that exactly for?

Melissa: So you talked about the other kind of person who doesn't know if it's worth it to them.

So you have to know, like, obviously we all spend money on different things and you kind of you show what your priority is, where you spend your money. So it can go in different, different things. Like we save a lot of money on a lot of our material things like, because we find so many good deals. So like every appliance in our house we've got for basically nothing like those kinds of things, but then we really like vacations.

So that's where we spend money is on travel so then you kind of can see where people spend the money. And also we do invest in coaching too for ourselves, but so you have to see. Is it worth it to me? Am I going to get something out of it?

Rob: So that course, that sourcing workshop, any of that stuff for the person who wants the shortcut, the person who does not have tens, 20, 30 hours to invest in a specific project or a specific way to make money, that's who these are for. It's the shortcut. For Melissa and I, I've done this for over 25 years. I flipped items in some rhythm some way or another for the last 25 years. So I have a lot of

Melissa: Made a lot of mistakes.

Rob: I have, I have a lot of information to give out to people because I've made tons and tons of mistakes.

I've learned from my mistakes. I've course corrected. And I've gone that other direction. You can absolutely go out there and learn all the mistakes that I did learn them yourself and do it. But the person who does not want to make those same mistakes, who wants to learn from somebody who's done it, that's, and this is just from our realm. That's what you're purchasing.

When you're actually enrolling into one of our courses, our sourcing workshops, something like that, you're going to get the results a lot quicker than if you have to go sift through, tens of hundreds of videos on YouTube to find what you want or blog posts, reading all that kind of stuff.

So that's really what the courses, that's really what the sourcing is.

Melissa: Usually somebody will find themselves either they have more time and less money, and that's when you go and you dig into it or you have very little time, you might have a little more money. So you have to be careful with it, but you need that shortcut because the time is what's of the essence.

Rob: Absolutely.

Melissa: I didn't mean to cut you off. Sorry.

Rob: No, absolutely. That's where it comes into. Is it worth your time to do it, or is it worth your time to find the shortcut? So you have the blueprint, you have somebody who's been in the trenches, and this is where you do have to be careful as well of whoever you're purchasing this course or whatever course or whatever.

Are they doing what they're preaching? Are they just giving you theory of what works, are they actually in the trenches? Exactly. Are they actually in the trenches? Are they doing it? Do they know what is going on? And that's what you definitely want to look at when you're trying to find somebody, if you are looking to purchase a course, a workshop, something.

Melissa: And we'll say from our own experience, we have purchased a lot of coaching, a lot of courses over the years. I don't know when we had this shift in mindset, but before I get to that, but some have been amazing and some not so much. But no matter if they were like exactly what we expected or more, or maybe not quite what we expected, we still learned from both of them. Like we still got something from both types and it's always a learning, you're always growing. You learn so much and grow, and it is a shift in your mindset. And I was trying to figure out when did we kind of have that shift? I think for me, it was more once I started having kids and stayed at home, like what, what is possible, I needed to find something I could do from home.

Like, and so I started digging into this stuff and like getting into more personal development and get in doing that kind of thing.

Rob: Yeah.

Melissa: And that's kind of where my mindset cuz I didn't have that mindset to, I dunno, keep learning.

Rob: Well no, it's definitely, it's a mindset. It's a mindset, especially like you said, some of the coaching that we've gone through has not panned out to be exactly what we thought it would be, but we could either get upset and bitter about that, or we can figure out, hey, you know, we learned.

Melissa: And we got this part from it.

Rob: Exactly, exactly. So that's the one thing that you can make the decision with your mindset, whatever you're doing, what can you learn from this? What can you take from this? Because if somebody is selling coaching, typically they do have some good information that you can take from it and go from it.

Now, Melissa and I are in coaching right now. Probably at least once, if not two or three times a year, we're in a year coaching program right now. And it's a huge sacrifice. Don't get me wrong. It's one of those things that you have to it, it will cause us not to, like Melissa said, we spend money on vacations.

That's what we love the experiences with our kids. But it will cost us, for the coaching that we're in. It will cost us some vacations that we will not be able to take because we are sacrificing to try and better ourselves, learn from somebody who's been there, and learn from somebody who's actually doing what they're, what they're selling.

That's what we're doing right now. So we do, essentially we don't have the money, but we are making the sacrifice so we can learn and get the shortcut.

Melissa: And that's a huge piece of it because, this is where I learned this a long time ago. When you invest in yourself, that exchange of money makes you show up.

So I started personal training when we met like a long time ago. And so I just, I go back to this because sometimes I would have friends that wanted to do personal training with me and I'd be like, okay, sure. Like, I'll give you some free sessions or whatever. They never got results. They didn't always show up.

Like they, because it was free and I offered it to them for free. And so I was like, okay, there's something about investing in yourself that makes you show up. So that's where like us, if we're investing in this. So we're not just going to sit back and let the coaching go by. Like we're going to do something with it, cause it's a sacrifice for us.

Rob: It's right now, we're in group coaching. So we have sessions every week and we can say, hey, if this was free. We're not going to go to this stuff. I mean, what's the purpose of it. But if it's a sacrifice for us, we are going to be there. We're going to show up and we are going to learn something from everything.

So, and back to Melissa saying about personal training, you don't know how many people have been around me, how many people I've grown up with, even my own family doing stuff, and me showing them and helping them make hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. And then them just walking away from it because they don't want to do it themselves.

It's one of those things that it, yeah, it's just crazy. If you're giving something to somebody it's a lot harder for them to see value in it versus actually giving away that money or, you know, enrolling whatever it is, whatever them having to separate with the money for themselves, they feel a little bit more pain and that way they're going to get results for what they're actually paying for.

Melissa: So, yeah, I mean, I even remember doing, it was a long time ago. I did this nutritional cleanse back in the day, and I remember we were first married and it was, I think it was $150 and it was a good product. It was safe and whatnot, but, I'm sticking to this program that they're telling me because it's $150, I'm going to do it and do it to how it's telling me to do it because that's a lot of money right now.

So, so yeah, and I did because I had that sacrifice. So it is, it's an exchange of money for your accountability really. And also you have most of the time with any kind of membership, any kind of, course or something, usually there's a community involved and that's a huge piece of it too, because when you're doing this on your own, like it gets hard. And so when you come to those hard times, if you don't have a group you can go to, or some kind of community to lean into when things do get tough, because in any business there's going to be something. For ours it's returns, people get upset. If they get a return or they don't know what to do, if somebody, you know, opens an eBay claim.

So then you have those people to lean on, who've been there, who've done it and help you walk through that situation. So, so anyway, so that was. So, I don't if you have anything else that you were going to say.

Rob: That's it! And you guys know, like we've said, we have courses, we have workshops. This is nothing about what we do.

This is just in general mindset about trying to pay. And probably 80% of you guys listening to this right now, have gone to college. You have gone to college and to learn a skill set and you paid a lot of money. We still, Melissa and I paid off her loan, years ago.

Melissa: No, just like two or three years ago.

Rob: No, I mean years after we were married, we were still paying on that loan and you guys might still be in the middle of this.

Melissa: Twelve years.

Rob: So it's one of those things that you have to have the mindset to learn, you have to be willing to learn. And that's one of those things, once you're there, the growth that you can experience from the shortcut of somebody else's course, somebody else's workshop, whatever they're doing, they're giving you knowledge of their blueprint of being in the trenches.

You definitely can get results. You just have to show, that's the other thing about personal training with Melissa, she learned this just because you pay out money doesn't mean the weight's gonna melt off of you. And it's the same way with anything that you show up, you have to show up, you have to pay attention.

You have to participate in what's going on to get the results. So, that's one of those things that you definitely, definitely want to do.

Melissa: So, just like for an example, for us too like we really know that we want to do better at YouTube. Like we like the, actually this podcast has been really pretty cool to be able to just jump on and do a couple of ramblings and hopefully give you some good pieces of advice.

But YouTube takes a little more time as far as editing a video and all this stuff. So, we just, we go back and forth and we're good for like, a month and then we're not good. And we don't put any content out there. So we know we really need to invest in a program for YouTube to keep us on track with YouTube.

So that's kind of on the, once we are done with a couple of projects, that's on the list of things to do so.

Rob: And if you're listening to this and you know, a great YouTube course that you think we should go through, let us know. Put it in the comments, let us know what you guys think. Cause that is, it's one of those things that we want, the shortcut, we want somebody who's gotten results.

We want to follow that blueprint. We want to stick to it. And for us to do that, we have to invest in it. We have to make ourselves, cause we're not doing it right now by ourselves. It's one of those things we know we have to do, but we're not doing it. So we will invest in that's one of those things that we know, and we will move forward with it.

Melissa: So just to conclude it, if you really find yourself that you are lacking in money, like there is a way like you, there is so much free information out there. Go out there, find the information, and do the thing you want to do. And then if you're also kind of hesitant, know that investing in yourself is a worthy cause. And that might be another roadblock for some people, like I can invest in this for my kids, or I can invest in this, but I can't really do it for me.

Maybe? Like you just don't feel like you shouldn't do that, but maybe kind of look at that and see why you're thinking that you can't do that. So it's just maybe another roadblock. So, this mindset stuff is super interesting. I don't know, like it's

Rob: And it's a constant battle.

It really is. It's one of those things that you constantly have to pour in yourself.

You constantly have to fight with yourself, to get to that next level. So it's something that even the coaching that we're doing right now, it's mindset coaching. We have coaching that helps us with mindset, to go to that next level, because it is, you really need mindset. You need tactical skills you need, and it's all one lump sum of things that you gotta add together to get to that next level.

Melissa: And I will say one piece of the coaching that we're in does do, some mindset, and then they're talking about like having this positive mindset, like I get every day from him. I don't know if I need any more positivity in my life.

Rob: So tell us what you guys think. Please let us know. Like I said, we love doing these podcasts. We love bringing you guys some great information. Hopefully you guys enjoy it. So yeah.

Melissa: Let us know on Instagram. That's where we're most active right now. So shout at us on Instagram. Let us know, give us your comments, what your, maybe some of your roadblocks of your own mindset.

Like let us know. We would love to hear from you.

Rob: You guys rock. Have a great day.

Melissa: Bye.
