Why We're Thankful For This Flipping Business

Rob: What's up, Pro Flippers? On today's episode, we are giving thanks in this season of Thanksgiving.

Melissa: For the week of Thanksgiving, we thought we would just dive into some things we're thankful for and hopefully encourage you to think about some things that you're thankful for.

Rob: All right, guys.

So it is the Thanksgiving season. We are excited. We love Thanksgiving and we wanted to bring you a podcast that we were talking about some of the stuff that we're thankful for. And hopefully you guys can also be thinking about stuff that you're thankful for now in this season. But yeah, let's go ahead and kick it off.

Melissa: Yeah. I think that one thing that I love about you is that you're very, you're always very positive and grateful for a lot of things and I, I have to work at it a little bit more. I tend to be a little more of a realist and a little more negative, I guess, compared to your positivity. So I, I love that about you.

So what is something that you're thankful?

Rob: Definitely thankful for our family. So most and I, I mean, I'm thankful for a lot of stuff. I mean, we get to do our business, we get to spend time, but I am thankful for Melissa and our kids. I'm thankful that we're able to spend as much time together as we do.

But even this week we were scheduled to go skiing, and be away at a skiing mountain, and it didn't work out because they didn't have enough snow at the mountain to do it. So we canceled it, but instead of having to go to work and leave our kids home or find a babysitter for our kids, we're able to work it into our schedule and still take care of them and do stuff. So I'm just thankful. I'm thankful for what we're able to do and what we, Melissa and I get to do together.

Melissa: It was kind of a bummer though, because, which that was one of the things I wrote down too. I'm like, it was sad because we saw there was not going to be snow and they're going to have to wait another week.

And this has been our Thanksgiving tradition for the last two years because we used to go to my grandparents every year. And, now that they're not here with us anymore, it's just, we were like, what do we do? We need to, you know, my family's all in Colorado and it's like, we need to figure out a new tradition, and this was it.

And so, I don't know, it was a little upsetting, but there is a silver lining and we get to spend the week with our kids and do a minimal work, you know, recording a podcast Yeah. And do a little bit of here and there.

Rob: But, but even flipping the switch. Yeah. So instead of actually going and snowboarding and skiing on the mountain, we're going to the water today to surf. So we are getting ready, we will. We are getting ready to head over to some friends house and go surfing, for the day behind the boat. And that is just amazing that we even have the opportunity to do that as well. So very thankful for friends and family around us that we're able to spend time with and do fun, really fun stuff.

Especially like I said, it's, we're not having to go to a job and work somewhere. We have the flexibility to be able to be available for our kids, which is where I'm just very thankful, very thankful for that. God's allowed us to have this lifestyle and be able to do the stuff that we're doing. So huge, huge things.

Melissa: Yeah. And I'd have to say, I mean, I, I obviously put the same thing, thankful for our family, thankful for this business that we've been able to do.

And yeah, and I have to agree that I am thankful, obviously, for family and our friends and the kids school. There's just, there's so much to be thankful for. And I am really thankful for our business that we've made it priority to be flexible and like be there.

We didn't have to put our kids in daycare. That was something that was important to us. Not that there's anything wrong with, you know, putting your kids in daycare or anything, but when they were little, we wanted to be home. And so we kind of made that a priority and we just worked around their schedule and flipping has allowed us to do that a lot.

Rob: Don't get us wrong. It was a financial sacrifice for us to do that. It wasn't like we had all this money saved up. And we were able to do it. That was not the case. We had to work at it and it was a huge sacrifice in the beginning to where now it's allowed us to with the business that we've built, the lifestyle that we've built, is through the years of doing this, doing the grind and doing this.

So we love what we're able to do. We're very thankful for what we're able to do. Yeah, it's just, yeah, we're, we're very in awe of what we're able to do with our kids, with each other. And just spend time.

Melissa: And we're grateful for all of you guys who tune into the podcast and listen, because if you didn't, if we didn't have anybody that ever tuned in, we wouldn't keep doing it.

I mean, we love that we get to come and talk to you about what things that are going on on eBay or what we're going through the flips that we do the, any, you know, flops that we do all that stuff is a lot of fun and share the stories. We have so many stories over the years, so it's a lot of fun to be able to have a place to share that with you guys.

And hopefully you get some good nuggets out of each episode. And this one was just kind of like an off the cuff, like, what are we thankful for? Because there is so much to be thankful for. And especially in the time where this world is just feels a little bit crazy, like an all different aspects. And if you consume too much of everything, then you might, like, it feels like everything is just going crazy.

So, so it's good to, you know, take a step back and say, okay, well, what am I thankful for in this season? And yeah, so I'm, I'm definitely grateful for a lot of stuff.

Rob: So absolutely. And I will give you guys a little challenge or a little something that you can do looking forward is try to find people that are very thankful, not just even around Thanksgiving.

Yeah. People who are thankful and uplifting, to really hone in and, and spend more time with because that stuff is contagious. If you get around somebody who is always thankful, who is looking at the positive and that's what Melissa, like at the beginning of the episode, she said, that's how I am.

Melissa kind of brings me down because she's a realist.

Melissa: I bring you down.

Rob: We even each other out. We balance each other out because I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum is what Melissa is. So she brings me to her level or I bring her up from her level and we, we balance each other out very, very well because we're the opposites and opposites attract.

That's kind of what it is. But think about that. Even your friends, your family, the people around you, if you're around negativity all the time, it really will wear on you. So, my challenge is to really seek out those relationships that you see are uplifting and are, they challenge you, but at the same time, they encourage you, they build you up so you can really, really, there's a lot to be said about, people that are that way and being around them, uplifting around them.

One of my favorite quotes from one of our people at JLD says, you are the average of the five most people that you hang out with. And I believe there's a lot of truth to that is surrounding yourself around those people. So, in this season of Thanksgiving, just think about that. Think about the people who are very thankful around you and very uplifting and try to get around more of them and spend more time because it is contagious and you will rub off on you as well.

Melissa: So, and that one thing, another thing I put on my list of things that I'm thankful for is the mastermind events that we've been a part of. And, we have to get out of our comfort zone to be able to invest in ourselves and be there. But being in those rooms with people that are thinking differently and thinking like bigger, and, it just, I don't know, I'm thankful that we have chosen to make that sacrifice because it is a sacrifice to be able to do that.

But I think we, it keeps us growing. Otherwise what, who was it that said, if you're not going forward or growing, then you're going backwards. It's not like you're standing still, time is still going. Everything is moving forward. And if you're not moving forward and growing yourself, then you're going backwards, which is an interesting perspective, I thought.

So I'm thankful that we've made that choice, even when it's hard, it's not always easy. That's for sure. So yeah, it does get tough, but, but yeah, I'm just, I'm thankful for our friends, our family, our church, the flipping business and, yeah, that we are always putting growing as a priority. And I'm glad that you do too, because it would be hard if it was just one of us that was like that. So.

Rob: No, it is awesome. It is totally awesome. So guys, again, I will echo what Melissa said as well. We're very thankful for you guys. We're thankful for you guys tuning in and giving us feedback, stuff that you want to learn more of that helps us, just better serve you with what we're doing. So we love the feedback that you guys give us. We couldn't do this without you.

So thank you so much, for being here, for taking part in mine and Melissa's lives. You guys are a huge part in it. So thank you so much for doing that. And yeah, we, we greatly appreciate you.

Melissa: I also want to add before I, sorry, I just thought too, like a huge portion too, to our members in our Facebook group too, because that is a, a group that we hold close and dear and have like been a part of, created eight years ago, which is just crazy. But there's such really cool people. And if you're listening to the podcast, you know who you are. We definitely appreciate you and everything you provide in our community. And we love that you are a part of our community and we're very grateful to have you in there.

Rob: And also our team members, which I feel bad that we didn't put them at the top of the list, but our team members who help us do this business. We totally could not do this without them. They help us with coaching. They help us with moderating, they help us with running events. They're huge. I mean, I can even say the names. Jenny Fyksen, Joanna Bradley, Stacy Gallego. These are some people who are behind the scenes who don't get a lot of praise through what we do because they're behind the scenes doing stuff.

Melissa: And Nicole, who is doing this podcast, helping us with the podcast every week, and we couldn't do it without her.

Rob: We could not do it without Nicole. That is for sure. But these are just people who are behind the scenes that we are very thankful and trust me, Melissa and I think about this daily, about all the, the stuff that we are able to do, because we do have members and a team around us, surrounding us and helping us do this stuff.

So we're very, very thankful for everybody who helps us, for everybody who's, included in our, our, well, our team and yeah, the community that's around us. It's just huge. It's really, really huge. And it's all works together, to, to help everybody. So we're very, very thankful for what God's given to us and what God's allowed us to be a part of.

It's really, really cool.

Melissa: And we're thankful to see where everything else goes. So we're excited. So maybe just think about today. If you're listening to this, like what are three things? And I know a lot of people start the day with gratitude. Like what are three things I'm thankful for? I have a, I go back and forth if I like journaling or not.

Like I do my devotions in the morning, but I always go back and think, do I love it? Do I not love it? So it's, you know, it's, it's your personal time, like, but thinking about it. I think starting the day thinking about something that you're grateful for definitely sets the tone for the day. And I think that helps even if you don't write it down, if you just think about it, and because there are things, even when things happen, like there's no snow, we can't go skiing.

There's other things that we are thankful for that we still get to hang out with our kids and, and be together. So.

Rob: You guys rock. Have an amazing Thanksgiving. And we will catch you guys on the next episode.
